Title: 6 Feb 2013: it's... 1991
Post by: RGMike on February 06, 2013, 08:39:18 AM
Apparently the promo/clue mentions Nirvana and Pee Wee Herman.

amazingly we haven't done '91 since late Nov. Here's that set for comparison:

Quote
1. REM feat. KRS-One - Radio Song
2. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away
(Movie - Cape Fear - "Every man has to go through hell to reach his paradise")
3. Divinyls - I Touch Myself
(Commercial - Entenman's cake. Go ahead and eat them, fatty)
4. Crowded House - Chocolate Cake
5. U2 - Mysterious Ways
6. Joni Mitchell - Come In From The Cold
7. Blur - There's No Other Way
8. Sting - All This Time
(News: Anita Hill)
9. Sarah McLachlan - Into The Fire
10. Big Audio Dynamite - Rush

Of course. We all know there were only a couple of dozen songs released in '91 so of course they have to repeat a few. </sarcasm>

BOS The Blessing - "Delta Rain," one of my oft-requested-never-played-in-AL-era songs.  Which makes it the third in the Renee era.

This one got a spin during A-Z, IIRC.

Doesn't seem to be a hit with the G-S's. :(

in my opinionation, this set is on shaky ground so far.

I kinda agree about the LN designation, but it's a welcome respite from all the other wanker songs.

I'm not familiar with it (and obviously not listening). Briefly describe it. I'm taking it Bruce Springsteen doesn't do guest vocals on this song.

rather alt-country-sounding to my ears.

Sounds about right, especially the vocals.  With a sprinkle of new age/electronica in the instrumentals.  Super slick production.

repeat artist but not song: B.A.D. Another LN as far as I'm concerned.

I can't tell the difference between anything by B.A.D, and a few clash songs like "Should I Stay or Should I Go."

Post by: RGMike on February 06, 2013, 10:30:30 AM
I don't have a great recollection of what was "current" on the radio in '91. I moved here that year and spent most of my time listening to the late lamented KDIA's classic R&B, with a bit of Live 105 (mostly Alex Bennett in the morning). Didn't really discover KFOG/10@10 until '92.

VHM Matthew Sweet but pretty LN too.

Off topic: what was the Queen Ida tune that Alex Bennett used as his theme song?

I'd just like to say I like the fact you're ID'ing the song.  Sometimes people get too 'inside baseball' here about what's playing, and the ID helps those of us who are either clueless, or looking at the postings after the fact.  I'm frequently both!

indeed -- and it's the 2nd time I'm hearing it today, as Redding "Bob" did "believe" songs on the 9@9.

It was a piano-driven instrumental -- had a Mardi Gras feel to it...

Ditto for EMF.

Just once I'd love to hear their other hit "Lies", or something off their second album. Preaching to the choir, I realize.

Everyone plays Unbelievable so much that it's hard to think of them has having any other songs. :-/  I'd like to hear Lies, or anything else by them, too.

it doesn't strike me as quite as egregious as the others, and it isn't in heavy regular KFOG rotay.  But I'm glad to say it's song #10.

Finally heard The Blessing during the replay. While I don't quite have radical's giddyness regarding "Delta Rain", it was very much welcome, and certainly better than hearing "Unbelievable" for the three millionth time . B/A for Good/Necessary.
