"The year Rhodesia became Zimbabwe", sez Greg. Whatever.
Gee, how many times has a 1979 set on a Monday begun with "I Don't Like Mondays"? great song but totally LN at this point.
previous '79 set (Dec 3rd):
1. The Eagles - Heartache Tonight
2. Rupert Holmes - Escape (Pina Colada Song)
(News: Iranians take hostages)
3. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Refugee
4. George Harrison - Blow Away
5. Joe Jackson - It's Different For Girls
6. John Mellencamp - I Need A Lover
7. Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger
(Movie: "The Jerk")
8. Talking Heads - Heaven
9. Ricki Lee Jones - Chuck E's In Love
10. Cheap Trick - I want You to Want Me
-
Don't know if I'd go so far as to say LN, but it's incredibly obvious. Gee, Renee how long did you have to think to come up with this one?
Betting we hear some Supertramp today, too.
-
Gomm with the wind: BOS1 "Hold On", one of my fave New Wave OHWs.

I recognize the name "Ian Gomm" but don't know anything about him. I thought this might be a Greg Kihn song; it's a little reminiscent of his "Remember".
-
"Argo fuck yourself!"
BOS2 Clash, clampin' down.

BOS3 Zappa!! "Joe's Garage" is always welcome.
-
"Argo fuck yourself!"
Mike, you're repeating yourself. You used that line last time we went to 1979 (in early December).
Speaking of which, here's what we heard then, for comparison's sake:
1. The Eagles - Heartache Tonight
2. Rupert Holmes - Escape (Pina Colada Song)
(News: Iranians take hostages)
3. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Refugee
4. George Harrison - Blow Away
5. Joe Jackson - It's Different For Girls

10. Cheap Trick - I want You to Want Me
BOS Clampdown. Nice to hear some real punk/new wave this time. Certainly not much in that last one.

I'll second that BOS.

Won't disagree, but it fit the mood this morning. :P

after the Oscars you'll never hear it again.

Buffett beginning his descent into caricature. Points for use of the word "remora"
-
Jimmy Buffett "Fins" -- Renee played this on her first visit to 1979.
-
Joe Jackson "Fools In Love" -- BOS
-
Nice clip from Manhattan into "Fools in Love". Well done.
-
BOS4 Manhattan -- this is a very AL-ish set.

VHM JJ "Watching the foolish master blaster detectives in love"

Yeah, I dug a lot of her late 70s sets. This is the first Renee 70s set I'm digging too.

Tarney-Spencer Band "No Time To Lose"
-
OMG: Southside Johnny, and the only song of theirs to get airplay west of Philly. VHMFRA.
-
Whoa. Southside's Havin' a Party. BOS and rarity of the day, hands down.

kind of amazing DC approved this one, actually. I requested many a SSJ&tAJs track from AL to no avail.

Steve Dahl into M's "Pop Muzik"
-
Har har, Do Ya Think I'm Disco.
Haven't heard M in a long time, so I'm enjoying "Pop Muzik".
-
WOS Steve Dahl.
LN "PopMuzik" but this was easily one of Renee's better efforts.
-
"Who could forget Trevor Spencer and Alan Tarney?"
Renee you're going to have to do better than that to make us believe you'd even heard of them before an hour ago.
-
1. Boomtown Rats - I Don't Like Mondays
2. Ian Gomm - Hold On
(News: Iranian hostages)
3. The Clash - Clampdown
4. Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage
5. Jimmy Buffett - Fins
(Movie: Manhattan)
6. Joe Jackson - Fools In Love
7. Led Zeppelin - Fool In The Rain
8. Tarney Spencer Band - No Time To Lose
9. Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes - Havin' A Party
(Comedy: Steve Dahl, "Do You think I'm disco?")
10. M - Pop Muzik
-
Renee sez Zappa gets BOS, Clash and Zeppelin tied for 2nd.
-
astoundingly, there are g'snipes saying this set sucked.

"Who could forget Trevor Spencer and Alan Tarney?"
Renee you're going to have to do better than that to make us believe you'd even heard of them before an hour ago.
well, to her credit, she effed up the name "Spencer" when she was reading it, and then under her breath answered the question by saying something like "apparently I can (forget)"
but yeah, she has cred problems BEYOND trying to remember classic rock one-hit wonders from the late 70s. But I lurved that song back then -- and still do -- and I can't tell Spencer from Tarney from my butt.
