Title: 18 Dec 2012: it's... 1989
Post by: RGMike on December 18, 2012, 09:57:56 AM
per Renee's clues it was 1986 (year Tetris debuted in the US)

uber-uber-uber-LN "Love Shack" -- Fred's about to thet thail.

amazingly it's been 6 weeks since we did '89 -- I'd've thought late-'80s would be coming up more frequently per DC's plan but I'm happy to be wrong.

Driving Miss Renee. Who's driving us insane.

Not recognizing this snoozy rarity: early Shawn Colvin?

Off to a flying start here, as usual. The late '80's were not this bad, I swear. Too bad none of the interesting genres can make it on the air.

Is this the Snoozereens?

I like this snoozy rarity, so BOS Shawn Colvin.  Everything else gets an LN so far.

uber-LN2: Smithereens.

And Renee's other clue was the Energizer Bunny -- which debuted in 1988. Seriously, how hard is it to give 2 accurate clues??

Since I suspect she spends all of about 30 seconds googling these clues (or perhaps her intern does?), the answer to that would be "very."

Big ol' LN to the Smithereens, who were a load of fun live, but their records got kinda boring after the first one.

Whether this Neil has been played a bunch or not, at least it's a good song.

This sounds like it might be live, or at least not the version we're used to hearing. Possibly from the SNL broadcast? I remember he did this on the show with Steve Jordan on drums and just incinerated the studio audience.

UBER-OMFG...BOS2 The Blue Nile!!!!!  :o  :o  :o  :o  :o
This is from an album that I've requested just about every single time AL went to '89, to no avail (although I know she played stuff from their previous album.)

I was thinking of the Replacements (I'm listening over the air). She has a personal attachment to Dave Grohl and Paul Westerberg.

Thanks for the ID, rad. I'll give it a BOS2, certainly.

maybe AL gave RR her notebook full of requests.

Fine Young Cannibals would make a suitable fourth horseman of the Apocalypse after Love Shack, Phil Collins, and So Alive.

Oh well, maybe Mayor of Simpleton/Veronica is a reasonable facsimile.

ah yes: the only Costello song you ever hear from Spike. And his only Top 20 single, BTW.

Tim & Greg played "Good Thing" at around 9:40, so here's hoping we avoid them.

I was just joking about the Mayor of Simpleton. Maybe it's not as much of a Veronica soundalike as I remembered.
