Title: 13 Dec 2012: it's... 1984
Post by: RGMike on December 13, 2012, 09:49:07 AM
I'm assuming early '80s.  It took 5 tries to get the KFOG player to work just now.

ah, '84 and it's Xmas. But do THEY know? It's a world of dread and fear. or Dred and DC.  VHM for playing a holiday tune in a regular set -- something Bob and Rob have been doing for years.

BOS1 Pretenders, "My City Was Gone".

BOS2 Mr Dolby "I Scare Myself"
Yesssss, excellent version. He was some of the best of the 80s for me.

I love hearing any version of this song. And I'd bet Dan Hicks' bank account appreciated it in '84, too.

LN2 Bruce Cockburn ("my cock burns! my cock burns!") which was a Moreytrina and I've always found it kinda meh.

Five songs in and we've got two borderline rarities already (Dubly and Cockburn). Not too bad a start.

What's the over/under on Thompson Twins some time in the next 5 songs? (Nahhh, I wouldn't take that bet either.)

INXS in general is kind of LN, but I don't hear this one that much anymore, and I like it, so VHM2.

Uber-BOS4 Bronski Beat!

This was a fairly common gold on Energy 92.7. :(

I don't recall hearing it on there.  They also liked "Smalltown Boy," of course.

"and the irrepressable Mary Lou Retton, who became the first American dwarf to take home a gold medal..."

A classic rock staple (hello, K-Fox!) but BOS4 VH, "Jump", a great pop single.

BOS5 Van Halen.  Nice to hear this alongside Icicle Works, Bronski Beat, Thomas Dolby, etc.

I'm surprised at the love for Jump. For me, it's the most overplayed Van Halen tune in their library.

LN3: Nena and her big balloons.

Still, this has been the least-annoying set of the week, so far.

I was just thinking about the furor over the axing of the marathon. Can you imagine listening to five of THESE sets in a row? Aural lobotomy.

Is this Howie? And is this song 11?

Indeed, extra frink points for playing the German version.  (Shoutout to Mshray, who popped in here briefly last week.)

Not recognizing this one either, but its verses kind of remind me of those cheesy Childrens' Hospital 100% jingles we hear on the stream.

Yep, BOS for Howard Jones. (Not counting...)

Did Renee really just call him Bruce "Co-bourne"?

BOS6 Howard Jones.

This is quite possibly my favorite set of the Renee era so far.  I'm going to tell them that, because I want to hear more sets with 6 BOS's and minimal LN's.

Yep, a slip of the tongue I'd say, but odd that she didn't fix it.

No Alanis, please.

Def one of her 3 of 4 best non-theme excursions. Or else I'm in a holiday mood.

Person in question also heard & appreciated that pronounciation, IIRC.
