Right there with you. Hate to bitch about the 'berries or the Rev, but to this point I feel like I've heard this set a few dozen times.

Somebody's on a Joni kick--didn't we hear one of her later songs last week? Not complaining, mind you. This is a rarity that's worthy of the name.

indeed -- For The Roses a rather overlooked LP. Tim Curry did a great cover of this song, BTW.

BOS2 Mr Browne, rockin' on da watah.

uber-uber-LN4: Mott.  One of the all-time '72 Katrinas, plus AL played this on K-Fox around 6 am -- I didn't need to hear it once today, much less twice...

BOS5 Carly, just because. yacht/apricot/gavotte!

This song strongly evokes the winter of 72/73 for me. I might even give this a BOS over the Kinks tune. Maybe.

BOS6 "Bare Trees".

Final score...

Egregiously unnecessary LNs: 4

Rarities/gems/delights: 6

'tis the DC formula, for sure.

indeed -- I had been a big Carly fan and was so thrilled that she had released a great song that also became a huge pop hit.

If he can stick to a 60/40 ratio of good 'uns to FFs, I might be able to stand this guy after all.

and to be fair, this was always DC's formula, according to what AL said. I think she did a better job of circumventing it from time to time (or at least her rarities were more often bustouts). But '90s sets by design contain more KFOG fodder (and '90s sets are always gonna be less interesting to many of us older folk). So we gotta take the good with the bad, I guess.

She also did a good job of mixing up the rarities/sledgehammers just enough to make a well-rounded set, especially near the end.  Renee is nowhere near as good at doing this, but hopefully she'll get better.

If 60/40-ish is DC's formula, which would be awesome if true, then I wonder what the six rarities in this set (http://10at10club.com/forum/index.php?topic=9086.msg157753#msg157753) are. ::)

The Chris Isaak and Lucinda Williams songs were not Top 40 hits, so I guess those will have to count!

that link will not work for me, but if you're talking about a '90s set, we know those are far more LN-heavy than, say, a '74 outing.

1. Raspberries - Go All The Way
2. Al Green - Let's Stay Together
3. Joni Mitchell - Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire
4. Jackson Browne - Rock Me On The Water
(News: Nixon)
5. The Allman Brothers - Ain't Wastin' Time No More
6. Doobie Brothers - Listen To The Music
7. Mott The Hoople - All The Young Dudes
(Movie: Poseidon Adventure - Shelly Winters)
8. The Kinks - Celluloid Heroes
9. Carly Simon - You're So Vain
10. Fleetwood Mac - Bare Trees
