Title: 1 October 2012: The Renee Era begins with...... 1968?

At least that's what Renee via JM's KFOG Radio inquiry infers.

and in honor of the passing of the torch, here's the thread from AL's first 10@10 -- a 1995 set on June 1st 2009 that led off with (not surprisingly, given what we know now) Foo Fighters.

From the first couple of posts were mentions of "Baby Got Back" and "When Smokey Sings", two songs that Dave never played but AL did.

Wonder what the first  "Song that Renee plays that Dave and AL never did" will be.

Did Dave play Madonna? I know AL hates her.

I believe AL played "Lucky Star" for the Friday the 13th set as well.  I could see RR playing "Secret" or "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" or even my long-ignored 98 request "Ray Of Light". But I don't think that will qualify as the first non-Dave/non-AL 10@10 play. And I don't think it will be because she visits 2003/2004. If I had to make a wager... ok, I'll make five suggestions, in case Dave or AL did in fact play some of these:

What Girls Want (Material Issue)
Get A Leg Up (John Mellancamp)
In The House Of Stone And Light (Martin Page)
I'll Make Love To You (Boyz II Men)
Looking Through Patient Eyes (PM Dawn)

Hmmm... one choice for each of 1991-1995. So of course it will probably be some overlooked 1968 nugget.

Let's hope Renee makes the request process a little more transparent than it is right now.

ah, the new opening, Short & sweet.

"The rock'n'roll roulette wheel"?  "Tighten Up" is one of the most overplayed oldies in radio, but VHM anyway.

but "White Room" is uber-LN1.

Those announcer folks sure sound like the new demographic. Chirpy.

Can't complain too much about Tighten Up, though it's probably gonna be squarely middle-of-the-road all the way, even for 68.

they're the KFOG voice people who do all the promos, liners and sounders.

I'm listening over-the air because I'm at home today; so forgive my spoilers.

We'll get by the LN's -- with a little help from our friends.

Are they just playing the Big Chill soundtrack beginning to end?

no news, TV, movie or commercial clips yet -- I had a feeling DC might want to dump those but they sure make the show what it is.

ETA: a convention riots clip. Glad to be wrong.

Tuning in and out in between phone calls. So far I haven't heard anything I thought was particularly rare or obscure--shocker!!  The comment about the Big Chill soundtrack is spot-on.  Sigh.

"Buttercup" is also one of the most-popular oldies of all time.  And "The Weight" is hardly a rarity either. This was kinda depressing.

On the bright side, a lot of these songs are so good, they still hold up on the 1,000th or so listen.

AL would play 5 of these and the rest would be deeper cuts, garage nuggets, etc. This is a DC wet-dream.

Jeezus H Christ: "Dock of the Bay" *AND* "Hey Jude".  What a sad collection of overplayed classics this turned out to be.

Predictability is
(a) ratings gold
(b) the product of the personnel's limited musical knowledge
(c) all of the above

I knew Hey Jude was coming. But maybe we all need some primal screams this morning.

Yeah, all of these are legitimately great songs. But they're great songs that we've heard to death. I am questioning whether DC just doesn't get it, or he's dumbing down the set to appeal to the widest audience. Guessing it's the latter.

'Bye 10@10. It was fun while it lasted.

That was quite a collection of overplayed "classics" on 10@10. Sad, really. The show has been legendary for 30 years for a reason. Please don't make it sound like Oldies 103.7

Er, has the BOS process gone back to the phones? Does "Howard" just get to pick BOS?

Also, Renee sounded unenthusiastic, like she was just getting the show out of the way. If it's going to go like today, they should probably just cancel it.

That's good. It was totally depressing. Even her backsell was really uninspiring. Seems like she wasn't that into it, remarking only that you don't hear Love Street much.

Exactly! She should be jazzed about inheriting the legendary 10at10, but instead...a big meh.

According to the KFOG page, BOS votes are taken by phone during the show. The Annalisa KFOG page was great for fans, but must have been an, er, beast to maintain. I wouldn't want to work as hard as Annalisa does (did).

I always dig 1968, my high school graduation year, but really folks...they had two weeks to kick it off, and this is all the effort they could muster?  I'm enjoying replay, but it's only so deep.
