Title: 18 Sept 2012: Dave Morey in... 1990
Post by: RGMike on September 18, 2012, 09:30:35 AM
Dunno if they're bothering to produce daily promos for these Morey classics.

ETA: sorry, I love dave but I've no desire to hear a 1990 set.

World Party leads off folllowed by the Oils. Feh.

1990

I recall sets from late 80's and early 90's from Dave being kind of samey and not featuring a wide variety of genres. Did he also admit he didn't particularly care for this era of music?

yeah, dave's '90s sets were not the best -- lot's of katrinas and we used to joke that whenever he had a day off they'd play a '90s "classic" because it saved him the indignity of having to do one.

I'd say that for 1986 through about 1994, AL>>>DM. DM>>AL for the 60's and 70's and both didn't seem to care much for 1995 and on (save for perhaps the Foos).

Did Dave ever go beyond 1994?

I believe the latest from Dave was 1997.

as I recall Dave did some '95, '96 and '97 sets. But his last few years there was not the emphasis on doing a '90s set each week that AL had imposed on her by DC -- Dave would do '90s every other week, and '95-'97 were pretty infrequent.

I *think* this is the setlist -- aired in April 2009 as a classic (after Dave left but before AL took over in June). Not sure when it originally aired.

4/27/09 - Monday...Must be...1990!!!

   1.  World Party - Way Down Now
   2.  Midnight Oil - Blue Sky Mine
   3.  Don Henley - Heart of the Matter
   4.  The Church - Metropolis
   5.  Jellyfish - I Wanna Stay Home (BEST OF SET!)
   6.  Del Amitri - Kiss This Thing Goodbye
   7.  Depeche Mode - Policy of Truth
   8.  Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
   9.  The Smithereens - A Girl Like You (BEST OF SET!!)
 10.  The B-52s - Roam

The Jellyfish song was the only one even faintly interesting in this set. Of course, I loves me some Jellyfish, and I didn't even recognize that one.

Yeah, I don't mean to irritate.  I just thought we always posted the official repost, and I find it somewhat interesting that they are so asleep at the wheel.
