First person to guess the connection wins Jackie Greene tickets. :o ::)
-
or to put it another way, it's "My 10 Songs". Like the "guess the mystery theme" sets that they do on the Sound. I suggested this 3 years ago, glad AL is finally doing it.
-
I'm afraid this could go badly. If Train or Gotye makes an appearance, we'll know it's off the rails.

It's possible, but I doubt it. There haven't been too many weak sets in recent memory, although the stench of the Giants 2011 Opening Day set still lingers. One thing about the 'themed' sets - they're allowed to break the 1965-2003 timeframe barrier (and to be frank, we've only had one 2k+ set since April).
I'm honestly intrigued.

"Baby It's You", A Group Called Smith--- early BOS; too early to guess anything.
-
"Baby It's You" is a great TOTHK. I confess I don't remember who this is.

OMG -- it's a Bacharach/David set!! "Close To you" seals it.
-
"Close to You" next. Is it all about You?
ETA: Oh, yes. Bacharach/David.
Waaaaaahhhhhh. Close to you.

actually the technical connection is Hal David (apparently) -- wonder if we'll get songs he wrote that Burt wasn't involved in.

"I Just Don't Know What to Do..." is one of my fave lyrics of his.

Dionne appears to provide local (SJ) color.

Isaac Hayes' version is my fave!

This was really a wonderful, varied set. And some of the FB folks really pissed me off "eww! it's boring! Wahhh! there's no Springsteen or Stones in this set!" Honestly if you can't appreciate classic songwriting why are you even listing to 10@10? Sheesh.

Funny, I was just going to ask how somebody in particular responded to this set. ;)
Was at an offsite meeting (which was in fact rather boring). Looking forward to the replay.

White Stripes suck on this

White Stripes suck on this
yeah, not the greatest version. I was hoping for the Costello cover but we got him doing "Never Fall in Love..." instead. And of course Dusty's take is sublime. And then there's this fab Cissy Houston version:

I was listening to the rerun with an open mind, not realizing who I was listening to. It really got irritating, so I looked it up. I know the White Stripes are sacred, and I'm just a grumpy old man, but sheesh... what a way to ruin a great song!
