Dave's out sick today...
-
Probably 80s-90s. I emailed a request for pick a year 69-79 set for Friday.

Likely you're right, particularly if Renee is the one choosing the year. She's fond of the mid-80s.
-
1983!
-
Kinks two days running! Don't Forget to Dance doesn't quite resonate with me the way Sleepwalker did, but still nice to hear the Brothers Davies whenever we can.
-
Don't forget to wake me it's over.
-
Ho hum...
HL "Fascination", then Kinks, "Don't Forget to Dance" 2nd day in a row. One of Dave's paint-by-numbers '83 sets?
-
Def. sounding that way.
-
Genesis, when they were...
-
Genesis, when they were...
Close.
Marillion, when they were really trying hard to sound like Genesis.
-
dude, it's prog pop!

I guess then it'sGenesis, when they were...not really Genesis

for an old fart like me, this is so far ahead of the pack. Great timing with VJ day, even though I know it's a "Classic"
-
I'm sure I didn't enjoy this set the first time either.

this would probably get my BOS vote too, if we were voting. Although I'm thinking we heard Seconds last time we hit 83.

Just curious, does anyone else think U2's War album is a totally classic record?
-
ahhh, the politics of an undanceable set. snooooozzz...........
-
i'm bored. let's play name that tune?
"my baby loves me, my baby needs me"
-
"can of fruit! can of fruit!"
-

"my baby loves me, my baby needs me"
the one on the radio now? I don't know.

Don't know if I'd go so far as "totally classic," as in "comparable to Beggars Banquet or Revolver" but it's pretty darn good--one of the better U2 albums overall, along with Unforgettable Fire.
Btw, I stand corrected: the U2 song we heard last time in 83 was Eleven O'Clock Tick Tock. That "time" thing was what threw me off, honest.
BOS2 Jim Capaldi.

You know Stevie ain't gonna leave her!
Got me on the fruit, though.
-
was this 83? Or am I wrong about Jim?

Not classic for me but I don't fully appreciate all that U2 does. I saw the Unforgettable Fire tour at the Cow Palace in the early 80's. I at least think it was Unforgettable Fire.
-
Jim Capaldi is good. I got the CD just for this tune.

i never knew whitney covered that song. thankfully.
points to you!

I think that was the Joshua Tree tour, back in the day when I had backstage passes to things like that, and now have to pay retail!
Oy!

oh, iw as just "quoting" r.e.m. that's what it sounded like he was singing.
-

Ironic, since this is likely vinyl we're hearing. I'm hearing "warmth" again.
And yeah, U2 played the Cow on the Unforgettable Fire tour. 1985, I think.

I thought it sounded kinda REM-y.

Step right up, and don't be shy!
Getting better.
-
I'm afraid not even The Tubes can help me now.

I owe it all to Google... I'm good, but not THAT good
-
when they were Toto!
-
ok, next name that tune lyric:
"some peoples' destinies pass them by"
-

methinks you are correct... tho' this set may predate "Spot the Vinyl" as an official 10@10 activity.
ah, Split Enz... another Morey perennial.

(Gaz throws hands up in defeat, gives halfhearted BOS vote to "Message to My Girl," nice enough song but not putting any starch in the ol' Corvette, ya feel me?)
-
wow. not only do we hear "fascination," we hear the song whose opening piano riff copies the "fascination" melody line, "message to my girl."
-
For a sec, when the intro to Message to My Katrina (a song I actually like) was playing, I thought we were hearing Fascination again. Similar chords.
-
ok, next name that tune lyric:
"some peoples' destinies pass them by"
I can't name it, but isn't it inherently self-contradictory?
-
Keep feelin' JINX!
-

Jinx to my Girl!
Glad to have the corroboration though--sometimes I think I'm imagining things like this.
-
I reiterate, snore...blechhhh.
-
To borrow a mixed metaphor from Gaz: my Corvette was definitely unstarched.

well, i don't take any credit for the lucidity of the lyrics.
-
Keep feelin' JINX!
that would be jinxination, no?
So I told Zito you said "hi"... and look what happened! Worst inning of the year.

always trust your imagination. or "keep trusting 'magination!"
-

as long as it wasn't "little"... or "red"...
-

Amen to that, man.

Sounds like Alicat borrowed the crankypants today. <g>

To borrow a mixed metaphor from Gaz: my Corvette was definitely unstarched.
Which itself I borrowed from her eminence Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane, "Eat Starch Mom," from the obscure 1972 album Long John Silver).

One of Clarence Thomas' favorite LPs...

Grace Slick may be pretty cool and all- but she knows diddly about automotive maintenance. I'm just sayin.
:D
