Title: 26 March 2012: it's... 1993
Post by: RGMike on March 25, 2012, 05:02:36 PM
Good lord, people want Spin Doctors AND Haddaway. And a Benny & Joon clip has been posted -- if we hear the Proclaimers I *WILL* go postal.

That LN needs to stay in the closet.

Haddaway seemed like more of a Dave fave than a Foghead one, but everyone apparently still wants to hear Spin Doctors.

I wouldn't mind "What is Love?" myself but would rather get my excessive BPM in the form of "More & More" or "Mr. Vain".

STP, John Hiatt...

I don't mind this frequent flyer..."Connected", Stereo MCs.

well, kudos on that. I'm guessing it was the only non-frequent-flier?

AFAIK Deep Forest is also bustout, & these particular STP and Los Lobos songs don't look like too frequent of fliers...everything else is pretty LN, although some were fairly listenable LN's.

03/26/12 - Monday! From Grunge to Groove in 1993!

 1. Stone Temple Pilots - Wicked Garden
 2. John Hiatt - Perfectly Good Guitar
(News: The growing world wide phenomena of Internet!)
 3. Stereo MCs - Connected
(News: Internet - A Yearning to Connect--A modulated anarchy)
 4. Deep Forest - Deep Forest
 5. Cranberries - Dreams
(Movie: Benny & Joon - Having a Boo Radley moment?)
 6. Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
(Movie: Benny & Joon-Sam's grilled cheese cookin' with an iron)
 7. Belly - Gepetto
 8. The Lemonheads - Into Your Arms
(Movie: Benny & Joon - Raisin angst)
 9. Los Lobos - I Want To Be Like You
(Movie: Benny & Joon- Benny (Aidan Quinn) and Joon (Mary Stuart Masterson) meet Sam (Johnny Depp) for the first time)
10. Tony! Toni! Tone! - If I Had No Loot (B.O.S!)

well 2 (?) bustouts is better than none. The STP is a rarity but that doesn't mean I wanted to hear it.  At least we avoided the Proclaimers.

Listened to this last night. Methinks it's one of the best 90's sets done so far:

Good/Necessary

1. C/C
2. B/B
3. A/B
4. A/A (I had almost completely forgotten about Deep Forest)
5. B/B
6. B/A (one would think this is a Katrina, but I can't remember it ever appearing on 10@10. Sounded really good last night).
7. A/A
8. A-/C
9. B/B
10. A/A

actually "Mmmm Mmmmm Mmmmm" appears 4 times in the Morey era; can't swear that AL's played it before tho' it seems likely.

I would almost propose a rule at this point: If a previously designated Katrina has not been played during the AL era, then it gets a fresh start. Speaking of which, when was the last time "Walking On Sunshine" has been played?

EDIT: I'll add some proposals to the Glossary thread.

Oh goody, does this mean I can start requesting Haddaway?  ;D

She played Walking on Sunshine on a 10@10 goes to the movies set, which IIRC was one of her first non-year sets.  That made us think she was aware of this group.

Katrinas need to be redefined, perhaps in favor of INXS or some other Annalisa favorite. What's the single most-played song of the AL-era?

Also, I think there should be a name for the 10@10 host's most favorite but least generally well-liked band. This would be, clearly, XTC. (This coming from someone who owns their best-of set).

On the Glossary thread I suggested "Foo".

I think people 'round here dislike the Foo Fighters more than XTC (people actually like XTC).  However, I don't think "Foo" is going to catch on.  Not that it isn't to the point, but it doesn't have the same je ne sais quoi "Katrina" had to make a successful meme.  But I could be wrong.
