When was the last time a song from 1960 was played on 10@10?

When AL last did "'60s Chartbusters" -- August 2010.
quite a lineup of tunes, if the list on Wikipedia is correct.

Damn, Fogheads (some of whom are otherwise smart) are making this whole thing needlessly complicated ("What is she doing? Leap-Grammys? WHAT??") Good gawd almighty.

I do understand the "off-by-one" confusion... i.e. "I Want To Hold Your Hand" may have been nominated for an award in 1965, but I will forever associate the song as being from 1964.

The Grammys ahev always had that problem because their eligibility calendar has often run from September to September or something equally ridiculous.

Percy Faith, like visiting KFOG before the format change way back when!

Ditto for the Girl from Ipanema.

and Tim was right -- we're talking year of release. so on Wiki's list, go '61... '65... etc.

The Grammys were totally out of sync with the times back then. I think this is a good song, but 1964 was shaking and quaking!

indeed -- did the Beatles get best New Artist for '64?
VHM S&G, overplayed chestnut tho' it may be.

True, although for the Grammys, this was relatively hip!

BOS1 Miss Rubina Flake -- she won 2 years iin a row (this and "Killing Me Softly")

Awfully easy listening on the 10at10 today. I know the song choices are "beyond her control", but sheesh.

well, but that's kinda the point. a HFH or 2 coming up.

George "I love the princess of cairo" Benson.
I'm getting very tired of FB freezing up during 10@10...

Ya, I know. But she did have the power to reject the whole concept. Or...maybe she didn't. Anyway, I'll give a BOS for easy listening from George Benson. At least we didn't have to hear "Afternoon Delight", which would have been quite the coincidence for me, since I heard it on XM "70s on 7" in a rented SUV just last week.

The ever mellow Masquerade. Sounds good.

If she sticks to format we will 'get' to hear Crapton twice. OTOH, Tina will also make an appearance.
But yeah, in spite of the fact that it's kind of cool we're spanning a long period of time, it's a snoozefest. Perhaps it would have better to include nominees to make it more interesting.

I'm guessing this was her idea, not DC's -- I can't imagine he was thrilled about "A Summer Place" gracing KFOG's air. Mellow or not, I'm digging the off-the-wall-ness of the whole thing, considering what DC's edicts have subjected us to.
OTOH: WOS1 Chris Cross.

But she threw in some extra giggles to east the pain..
No, wait. They INCREASED the pain. Increased is what I meant.
(for the record, I didn't mind Percy Faith as much as forced ironic laughter.)
-
Holy death by mellowness, not Christopher Cross!!! Though I do appreciate him paving the way for ugly guys in music.
-
A painful Cross to bear.
-
Tina. Powerful.

Tina makes it all better.

WOS2 Bobby McFerrin. eek.

Faulty memory. I was sure it was Winwood. This is not making me happy.
-
Luckily I haven't heard "Don't Worry Be Happy" lately. :-) Sounds great on headphones...

I would have far preferred Winwood. Hated "Don't Worry Be Happy" in '88, and time has not been kind to my feeling regarding the song.

Isn't this a case of where an artist refuses to play their biggest hit in concert?

damn, it's the looooong version.
and now our Crapton twin-spin.

Very sweet fretless and steel guitar on this track, if you listen beyond the vocals

Hee -- but I'll VHM "Change the World", which I've always liked -- check out the orig version by Wynonna Judd sometime.

Change the World in a good flick with Travolta. Need to go look that up.

if you ook at the list, the rockinest song to win ROTY was MJ's "Beat it" (!) until Kings of Leon came along 2 years ago.
-
Of course record of the year is largely about the producer, and I can't deny the production values of all these tunes.

For better or worse, there was also "Smooth" and "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams".

"Sailing" cured my insomnia last night. Seriously though, the set was different enough to be enjoyable. Once in a blue moon.
