Post by: RGMike on January 01, 2012, 10:11:18 PM
our first new set of the year? or another "classic"?  (it's a holiday Monday, technically)

ETA: Renee confirms it's a "classic" -- Movie Monday.

Pulp Fiction: "Miserlou". Nice start.

BOS Tiny Dancer, despite priding myself on NOT being manipulated by pop culture, I think I got a little choked up in this scene from Almost Famous.

wow, this was one of the first theme sets of the AL era. (I guess she did "Dads'n'Grads" and the Pride set in June of '09).

I'm loving this set.

BOS3 to TAFKACS.  I saw Harold and Maude during the Red Vic's last weekend.  :(
BOS4 to the Shins.  Can't understand much of what he's saying, but I like their music a lot, esp this dream-pop nugget.

98.1 KISS FM played this one the other day and I was all Wha..?

BOS5 to OMD's If You Leave and John Hughes' Pretty In Pink, even if Andrew McCarthy's hair takes and abrupt turn for the absurd in the last prom scene  (he had shaved his hair for another part, but had to come back for a reshoot and they must have picked up a wig from K-Mart..  yeesh)

Yep, less than two months into her tenure as 10@10-meister, when she was amazing us daily with the gems she'd pull out. Has this theme been repeated since then? Not more than once, if that.

I saw two "Movie Mondays" in my earlier playlist search, but DM did some "10at10 Goes to The Movies"

iirc, management at the time frowned upon theme sets -- she had lots of ideas for them (remember "Funny Fridays"?) and they got shot down consistently.

I just did the same search. Yes, three results, but one of them is today's repeat. The third one was from March of 2010. Here's what it consisted of:

Quote
3/8/10 Lights, Camera, Action! It's Movie Monday...take two!

1.  Burt Bacharach/ BJ Thomas-  Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head
(Movie: Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid)
2.  Stealers Wheel-  Stuck In The Middle With You
(Movie: Reservoir Dogs)
3.  Yello-  Oh Yeah
(Movie: Ferris Bueller's Day Off)
4.  Shirley Bassey-  Goldfinger (B.O.S)
(Movie: 007-Goldfinger)
5.  Simple Minds-  Don't You Forget About Me
(Movie: The Breakfast Club)
6.  Aimee Mann-  Save Me
(Movie: Magnolia)
7.  Harry Nilsson-  Everybody's Talkin'
(Movie: Midnight Cowboy)
8.  Soggy Bottom Boys-  I am A Man Of Constant Sorrow (B.O.S)
(Movie: O Brother, Where Art Thou?)
9.  Ray Parker Jr.-  Ghostbusters
(Movie: Ghostbusters)
10.  Isaac Hayes- Theme From Shaft (B.O.S)
(Movie: Shaft)

I'd be in favor of this coming up on the wheel once or twice a year.

Gonna give a BOS to the OG 'Trina.  Haven't actually heard this in a while.  It's also a sledgehammer for me.   :)

This is one of the few times I've actually heard the one song we use as a reference to overhead songs...  don't it feel good?

Like DM did, makes sense to do the theme at Oscar time.

Annie Potts Alert!

Seems the movie version of Tequila was a half-step higher in pitch than the one she played.

It's probably been a good 10 years or more since Walking on Sunshine was showing up in nearly every '85 set for several months. Pre-Shraytabase, iirc.

Specifically, the term was coined in May 2001, when the song came up thrice in one week for a 1985 set, a 'warm weather' set, and a Katrina set. Later that year it would be the first song on 10@10 for my birthday.

tuned over to Oldies 103.7 and I heard these two songs in this order:

  Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive
Elton John - Tiny Dancer (still playing as I type this)

Maybe there a 10at10 fan over there...!
