I've a feeling "More More More" will make an appearance. Giter (who's usually pretty savvy) wants that godawful Flash Cadillac song we always diss when it shows up on Casey Kasem.

This week: 68 76 85 89 97
Two pre-1980 sets in a week? Been awhile? Of course, it probably happened three weeks ago.

It probably has happened within the last month, I'm just too lazy to research. Given that AL was gone for 2 '90s-oriented "classics" weeks, they owed us.

Hoping for "Rip Her to Shreds". Yeah, I know, I know...so predictable!

red eye shadow! green mascara! too much! -- ANY Blondie from '76 would make my day; there are people requesting "More Than A Feeling"... "Rhiannon" ... "Love Rollercoaster"... jeezus.

"Rhiannon" in particular would be a 10@10 buzzkill.

I'm starting a dating site for stoners: howaboutweed.com.

Hmm, I've always associated this song with '77.

you are correct, sir!
BOS1 JB!

JB, baby!
-
Thought we might get a nice block of dance tracks, but Boston puts a screeching halt to that.
-
At least one of RGMike's regrets is being played.
-
I never need to hear "More than a Feeling" again as long as I live.
-
uber-BOS2 Stones, "Memory Motel"
-
Late to the party. Forgot to tune in.

uber-BOS2 Stones, "Memory Motel"
Nice to hear again after so many years!
-
I never need to hear "More than a Feeling" again as long as I live.
I could say the same about Booger Man.
BOS, JB, Stones (I don't recall ever hearing this Stones track).

heh, I knew someone would say something like this.
I'll BOSton... this song sort of bridged my taste from crappy pop over into crappy rock, so it has a sweet spot for me. It's a good thing I like it, b/c you hear it so much.
Dalgurnit, dem Rollin' Stones is mighty country fried!~ ' well maybe 'cept fer that 'lectric pie-anna.
eat a sandwich, Lorainne Newman!

BOS3 SNL: Don Corleone in group therapy. Genius.

From their Black & Blue album which also includes "Hand of Fate," "Hot Stuff, "Fool To Cry. " And BOS the SNL skit.

Not bad. I don't fault you for it.

I diggit. I remember when Elvin appeared on either Mike Douglas or Merv Griffin and played this. I thought Mickey Thomas was Elvin because he sang!
but why the short guitar solo? BOOOOOOO!! It's got one of the most charming missed-notes-made-good ever played!
-
BOS4 Mr Cash!!!
-
UBER BOS Johnny Cash. Congrats Here's To Ya for suggesting!
-
Volare! Whoa-oh! (with voice over by NY DJ Scott Muni)
BOS The Man In Black "One Piece At A Time"
-
also unnecessary: Steve, Billie Jo and Bobbie Sue. Sheesh.
-
Steve Miller, on the other hand, is not welcome right now.
-
nice Johnny Cash, but here's one that we can add to the "never need to hear again" pile.
Go Awn, take it already! (But I am glad he knows exactly what the Fax is.)
-
Wondah Woman theme, it rawks!
-
also unnecessary: Steve, Billie Jo and Bobbie Sue. Sheesh.
On the other hand, I needed a bathroom break. I can now enjoy the rest of the set in comfort. (Sorry if that is TMI).
-
BOS Blondie, In The Flesh!
-
uber-uber-BOS5 "In the Flesh" -- thank you AL and sg.
-
Wondah Woman theme, it rawks!
er... I think you spelled "squawks" incorrectly. :)
-
also unnecessary: Steve, Billie Jo and Bobbie Sue. Sheesh.
Agreed. I wansn't even feeling up to posting about it.
-
Ick, it's the Iggles!
-
for every nugget we get an Oldies103.7 affrontery.

Speaking of squawks... The Eagles, caw caw!
-
New Kid a little too slow. Sleepy time.
-
The Eagles give Steve Miller a run for least necessary.
I actually haven't burned out on "More Than A Feeling" (I can't remember the last time I heard it on the radio), and it still sounds good, so it's out of the running for least necessary in my book.
-
'76 The birth of punk! Hey Ho Let's Go!
-
BOS6 Ramones, altho' it probably qualifies as being as overplayed as any Eagles tune at this point. But it's, like, 1/3 as long as "New Kid..."
-
And apparently I have grossly underestimated Foghead love for the Eagles. Now that's what I call snooze rock (with a couple of exceptions).
-
overall, best set of week.
-
And the followup song is "Into The Great Wide Open". >:(

it's not possible to underestimate Foghead love of ANYTHING. The comments on FB make my head explode on a daily basis. Particularly the "I haven't heard this in AGES!!" swoons over songs that 105.7/the Bone/K-Fox all play 27 times a week. I guess these people really listen to KFOG 24/7?

or maybe they don't have the same finely-tuned radio nerd sense that we have. Many folks don't give a care as much as we do about these kinds of things. They might like 10at10 b/c it is (or was?) awesome, but other than that they play their ipods or listen to KOIT at work, etc.

you're absolutely right, of course -- but that doesn't make me any less sad about the state of radio-and-music literacy. Folks like that are the majority and that's why DC can get away with dumbing things down because "most listeners won't even notice".

I completely agree with everything expressed above. But that said, I am heartened to see that the three songs that tied for BOS are the biggest rarities of the set and the ones that are most deserving, imo (JB, Johnny, and Blondie). So either there are a few more fogheads than we think who are of similar opinions to ours (or mine anyway), or AL is stuffing the ballot box. :)
Was very pleased to see Memory Motel make it into the set. Black and Blue is probably the most maligned of the mid-70s Stones records, but I think it's got some really great material on it--particularly three of the songs that were mentioned earlier (Hand of Fate, Hot Stuff, and MM). Fool to Cry is OK, but it's almost a carbon copy of Memory Motel--the melodies and the production on both are really close imo. Cherry Oh Baby and Hey Negrita are pretty fine too--all in all, a pretty solid album. Full disclosure: I didn't come to this opinion until after it had been out for a number of years--in '76 I thought it was pretty lame, as did a lot of folks.
-
So have I just not heard it (admittedly I haven't been catching but one or two sets a week in recent months), or is that Richard Lewis intro bit new? Not exactly Don Pardo, but hey, who is?
-
Fiiiinally I get to listen! Have a nice
day evening. :) On the good foot!
I love "More Than a Feeling", too. Sue me!
"Memory Motel", NTM, but good (even though Mick's vocals worked my nerves a bit)
Oh, hell yeah! Wondah Womaaan! In da flesh... (BOS)

This Eagles song is doing it for me. Probably helps that it's 10:43pm.
-

And it's the l-o-o-o-o-o-n-g version too!
