Title: 11 November 2011: Nigel Tufnel Day!
Post by: Lightnin' Rod on November 10, 2011, 05:24:28 PM
11 tunes that need to be played to 11.  Get your requests in!

Reminds me of the J. Geils album note:  "Made loud to play loud".

The Stone Roses - "I Am The Resurrection" is my choice.  Good one to test out new speakers, headphones, etc.

Some FBer suggested...I kid you not...Journey's "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'." One person's "eleven" is another person's "two".   ::)

You got DAT right. I'm thrilled and honored to have AL use my idea but man there's some yeesh-worthy cheeze in that suggestions thread.

OTOH this could be the day that lattegirl gets her some Metallica.

Hey, smart move selecting more current songs.  AL's gonna have to play one from this decade, right?

Someone who suggested Rush also suggested "Our Lips Are Sealed."  M'kay.

This is such a great concept (thanks, RGM), but I fear it's going to be very predictable like the guitar heroes set from this past summer, so I'm prepared for a lot of dinosaur rock.

I could definitely see "Sweet Home Alabama" being played.

But then again, AL has generally put a surprise or two into these 'specialty' sets, so I shouldn't be too pessimistic.

Actually, BOC's "Godzilla" wouldn't be a bad choice.   ;D

I tossed out two songs I always enjoyed playing loud in my younger years: Lou Reed's Rock & Roll (off Rock & Roll Animal, natch) and Todd's Initiation. I figure both of those have a good chance of catching her eye, and the Lou might be well known enough to slide under DC's radar.

nice start for the Vets.

I predict a round of giggling when this set ends.

Anyone going to the Veterans Day Parade today in SF?  Starts at 11 AM at Montgomery and Market, proceeds down Market to McCallister, then left on Polk to the front of City Hall.

But will we get the segue into Living Loving Maid? And if we do, will that count as one or two songs?

So one could assume that both Jamie and Rod are crying?

I diggit (the song, that is.. not the tears).

I had requested Mickey and Sylvia's "Love is Strange" because I used to turn up the volume all the way during the tinny guitar solo.  That also works for the guitar break in Heartbreaker!  Cranked it up in the car today!

I thought there were a couple of songs that were obvious AL picks (like the Iggy and Runaways tunes, and maybe X) but yeah, I can hear what you're saying.

Oh, and the song directly following the set? Midnight Oil. I rest my case.

I think the nature of the set idea put the playlist into a corner of sorts.

1. the songs need loud guitars/drums/keyboards (see my Rick Wakeman/Moog post (http://10at10club.com/forum/index.php?topic=8457.msg147436#msg147436))
2. the vocalists are at the top of their volume - lots of diaphragms got a workout in this one
2. the songs have to be pretty widely known.  Any song can be turned to "11" but the ones the audience wants to turn to 11 are the ones they're comfy with.  "Oh, I love this song!  Turn it up!"

ppfffttt... Ballroom Blech.

Please tell Steve I am not ready.

I was lying on my chiropractor's table with electrodes attached to my lower back, but did AL (intentionally) miscue the Ramones (I swear I heard "Hey Ho, Let's Go"), and then there was a break, and then Ballroom Blitz came on? Or maybe it was an issue with the San Jose repeater and the rain?

Back in the car, everything was copacetic, although goddamnit I forgot to tune back in when I got to my cubicle, so I missed #11 and the rundown.

Speaking of rain, did anybody else get tickets for the Black Keys tonight in San Jose? (I got mine at the Microsoft Store, not from KFOG.  I hope the KFOG ones are better because waking up at 5AM to try to win was a f-ing chore earlier this week.)

I'm hoping it's still on (City College football arena -- just a few miles from us, but I've never been).

When I think of songs that go to "11", I think of the 70s.  I thought, for sure, that this set would be more 70s-centric.  Cheap Trick's "Surrender" would've been nice to crank up today.
