Title: 5 Oct 2011: it's... 1977
Post by: RGMike on October 04, 2011, 10:03:35 PM
AL posts a YT clip of Roky Erickson's "Starry Eyes" that says copyright 1986; but the song came out in '77 (and we've heard it in several '77 sets). People have guessed '84, '88 (which we visited, um YESTERDAY!), and generally are making pointless off-topic comments. C'mon people -- it's 10:00, I wanna go to bed.

ETA: it's now 10:30 and I give up.

ah, i was right, it turns out: '77.

Isn't it time for a non-Katrina?  oh well...

I always heard this as an hommage to the Rascals ("How can I Be Sure" etc)

to quote RGMike on FB re: a guilty Babys comment:   "No guilt necessary!" :)

I saw KC&TSB at the San Mateo County Fair a couple years back, and the dude puts on a pretty good, cheesy show.  He plays up the shlockiness a little himself, too, and his expanding waistline...

BOS for Annie Hall... we all need the eggs.

I was hoping AL would seque into "Starrider" from "Starry Eyes".

This set needs 17 minutes of Pink Floyd.  Or some Geils.

I got the sense she did not want requests.  I often wonder if that is the source of our disappointment too, sometimes.  Yesterday's set sucked arse for sure, but did we have heightened expectations because of some of the requests that were made (which I am sure DC will not allow a wide array of stuff to not be included....)

yes, absolutely.  She does have a backlog of "suggestions" and she does dip into them (I've gotten requests played months later).

That was a highlight -- gotta check if it's a bustout or just a rarity.

Foreigner: feels like the billionth time.

I also think there are things Dennis will just not allow.... Metallica, Guns n Roses, Ministry, some deeper cuts from standard KFOG bands (stones, U2, beatles, etc).  Dave and Annalisa used to play them, but not recently... not since the station got constantined.  he's a nice guy too... and i know he is placating his bosses - but sometimes it shouldn't be only about the bottom line.  i am off my high horse now.

"Dr Love" is a bustout per the Shraytabase -- I can't remember if AL has played it before.

The Ramones: a piece of Semifreddi bread to Foreigners crappy Cabernet.

the rawk stations in Lou Gramm's hometown, Rochester, NY, gave Foreigner heavy airplay.  And when they were popular, my listening habits gravitated toward those stations, so they have imprinted on me.   They have some good stuff, but a lot of dreck.  Mick "The Other Mick Jones" Jones has some big-arse guitar sounds, which I get into.

well, anyway, enuf trying to defend and rationalize a crap band.  I know they suck, but I like them...  :)

I picked up a couple of Foreigner cds for free once.  The deeper cuts are better than the hits (like the aforementioned "At War With The World"), and I like the guitar work too.  A friend of mine saw them a couple of time way-back-when and said they kicked butt.
