Yay.
It's request time over on facebook.
At least I didn't request "Dead Babies".

The potential for a nice sampling of '71 variety: R&B, pop, rock, deep album tracks. Stax o' wax!

One can only hope. But there are enuf lame-oid requests on FB ("Joy to the World"? Really??) that this could be another Oldies 103.7-fest.

There's one FB poster who has developed serious request diarrhea. S/he requests about 30 songs every damn day, all of which were overplayed on Top 40 back in the day, and are now painfully common on oldies radio. Kind of wishing that AL would ask people to limit their requests to one song again.

There's a whole lotta request diarrhea going on. But, limiting everyone to one request is cruel. I'd say 3, tops. That way, Swellegant can get his WTF selection in. ;)
-
Hmmm... so I wonder how R.E.M. is going to be in this set. :P
-
Oh Joy! :o In all honesty, it is a good leadoff song, one that I haven't gotten sick to death of.
-
"Jeremiah was a 'Trina ... was an Oldies 103.7 staple."
Not the first time this has been the TOTHK.
-
10 #1s for 1971? So far we're 2 for 2.
-
VHM Mick and his slave bitches.

BAH! WOS, BS.

I said "one" because people still didn't comply totally, but the length of their lists was drastically reduced. If everyone kept it to 3 I'd have no problem. Right now it's turned into a contest to name as many songs as you can from the given year.

BAH! WOS, BS.
Hey, if it was quoted in The Wire it is by definition not too bad.
-
BAH! WOS, BS.
Rod's no schoolboy but he knows what he likes. Definitely an overplayed "classic".
-
"Jeepster" is also a 'trina in both the Morey and AL eras by now. But I do still adore it. And I'm gonna SUCK ya!!!

Maybe not, but it wore out it's welcome for me in the mid 70s.
Maybe I'm just not in the mood -- Jeepster's annoying me too.
-
Would've preferred "Sister Morphine" and her cousin cocaine.
-

I hear ya.
-
you guys have gotten so codified, I have almost no idea what's been played before Jeepster. 3DN Joy? Stones, Bitch?
-
Anyone else having problems getting to the KFOG site or its online player? I am getting an error page from dotnetnuke.com, which sounds like KFOG's url has been hacked.

I thought "Jeremiah was a 'trina" made it pretty clear what 3DN song it was. ::)

I always use the WMP player link on our main page here.

Joy to the World
Brown Sugar
Jeepster
Thanks, I just joined in too (dang cow-orkers, don't they know its 10at10 time?!) We're gettin the SHAFT, but there's still time for a bustout, or at least something that's not an overplayed oldies staple.

That's why I guessed it right!

Now we're talking, Rod!
-
Now we're talking, Rod!
with a Faces like this we got nuthin' to laugh about!
-
BOS Stay With Me. Sounding good on the air right now.
-
I'll also admit that I never get tired of the Doors. Hell, even give me the AM version of "Light My Fire"!
-
"... SF Radio and the big beat..."
-
Wow,theDoors are actually the closest to a rarity so far. BOS to their stoned, immaculate selves.
-
I'll also admit that I never get tired of the Doors. Hell, even give me the AM version of "Light My Fire"!
I thought the Doors were spent by this time.
-
BOS2 Sistah Havens, li'l darlin'.
-
Yea! Richie Havens Here Come Dee Sun!
-
OTOH, I rarely tire of Richie Havens. Saw him twice in the day, once at Winterland, once at Fillmore West.
-
BOS, RH, "Here Comes The Sun"
-
Richie Havens BOS
-
BOS2 Sistah Havens, li'l darlin'.
it makes me immensely sad there are folks on FB who didn't know who this was.
BOS3 Sonny & Cher. Best Cheeze of set: "GT&T"
-
BOS, RH, "Here Comes The Sun"
Sunny and Share ;)
-
BOS The Doors and "Here Comes the Sun"...love Nina's version, too.
-
BOS 2, "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves", even if it's going to make AL giggle in the back announce.
-
I'll also admit that I never get tired of the Doors. Hell, even give me the AM version of "Light My Fire"!

No, I think LA Woman came out in '71.
-

I meant creatively spent. They put some stuff out for sure.
-
BOS3, LZ, of course. Has it been a long time?
Also, BOS Willie Mays, Juan Marichal, and Chris Speier.
-

I think geoff meant "creatively spent" (as in "this LP wasn't very good") as opposed to "no longer extant"
-
BOS4 the Mighty Zep -- it was a treat to hear "Tangerine" on the Morning Show today.
-
OK, I know it's a Katrina, but I'm going to close my classroom door, and crank up the Who! BOS!
-
wow, this set was Oldies 103.7-meets-KFox. Given the TON of interesting suggestions that were ignored, I'm once again flummoxed by what exactly DC is trying to do.
-
I'll have to WOS Who, only because this is indeed one song I don't need to hear again.

Might have seemed so at the time, but looking back, there are still a few gems on LA Woman.

These older sets hurt me more. I don't expect much from the more recent ones, but the limits the PD puts on things is positively stifling.

LA Woman is one of their better albums: Love Her Madly, Riders on the Storm, LA Woman, The WASP, The Changeling, good stuff!

Well, there IS a reason those two broadcast stations exist, and not something like The Vault on Sirius. People aren't that hard core.
-
"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss" = false equivalency?
-
I'll have to WOS Who, only because this is indeed one song I don't need to hear again.
Which is fair, since I gave WOS to Brown Sugar for basically the same reason. But I've never really tired completely of Don't Get Fooled...

You would think though, that with this being 10@10, a mix of say two golden oldies, two KFox staples, two forgotten hits from the time and four others wouldn't be that much of a stretch.

Ah, OK. Didn't parse that way when I first read it.

And again: if Dred's allowed to be off the wall in his "Connected" sets, why must AL be reined-in? I see no logic in that.

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss" = false equivalency?
Well, we could debate that, but close enough for a rock song.
