Post by: RGMike on September 22, 2011, 09:40:33 AM

So I missed the intro. Is the an End of REM as We Know It set, or 1989?

ETA: Well, the Smithereens have the answer for that.

I half-expected a Foghead-generated "Goodbye REM" set tomorrow, but I'm guessing that ain't happening now.  I'm sticking with the UK chart show, a no-request '89 set sounds like torture to me (prove me wrong, AL, and I'll listen to the replay)

Not much action on FB. AL's not on fire (yet).

Ooh, BOS for the Pixies.

"Here Comes Your 'Trina"?

I see the 10K Maniacs tune was "Eat For 2", which may be a bustout, actually.  But the Cure sure ain't one.

BOS, The Cure.  A frequent flyer, but I never get tired of this one.

VHM, the Pixies.

Kate Bush 4ever! BOS

Fred P said "WTF is this shit?" (I'm paraphrasing)

But everybody's gushing over Love & Rocketrinas.

Seriously, other than Ms Bush and the 10KManiacs tune, this was like Dave on autopilot. Sad sad sad.

Oh, and that new guy on FB who thought it was 1979 and would. not. let. go... sheesh.

jeezus, they followed 10@10 with "Don't Dream it's Overplayed"?

ETA Jose F sez: "Oh lord! I Love Crowded House...mmm"  Why did I "friend" him?

I'm sorry, I know my 10@10 snarkiness seems overdone at times, but listening now feels like talking to an elderly relative with Alzheimers... sometimes they break thru but mostly they're just not the person they used to be.  And reading commenters on FB, the majority of whom are taking no notice whatsover of the difference between the sort of set AL did today and the stuff she was doing 6 months ago... well it just makes me want to scream. Seriously.

I agree with all of your premises.  Sometimes you do go a bit beyond, but the last few weeks have just been sad.  This is not our 10@10, not anymore.  :(

Don't...even!  After waiting for 40 mins for my bus this morning and practically missing 10@10, my nerves are shot.  These FB folks aren't helping matters.  Fred was also bitching about PiL, saying he would rather hear deeper cuts from well-known bands, as opposed to tracks from lesser-known bands.  What, like a cut from a substandard Rolling Stones album such as Steel Wheels?  No thanks, buddy.

dude, I completely agree.  Listening to these past few weeks has been underwhelming.  They've taken the once great 10at10 idea and beat it into mediocrity by making it stick too closely to the corporate-safe playlist mission.

After spending the last couple of hours arguing about fonts and whether to use Word or Access to produce a report, and thinking 'maybe today's set will relax my stress tonight', I agree 100%.

Damn, I just looked at all his statements. It's enough to make me want to break things.

9/22/11-  Thursday! "Pop" Songs & Sounds of 1989

1)  REM- Pop Song 89
  2) Smithereens- A Girl Like You
 (TV: The Wonder Years)
  3) The Pixies- Here Comes Your Man
  4) 10,000 Maniacs- Eat For Two
  5) The Cure- Love Song
(Movie: Honey, I Shrunk The Kids)
  6) Adrian Belew- Oh Daddy (B.O.S!)
 (Movie: Parenthood)
  7) B-52's- Roam
8 ) Kate Bush- Love And Anger
 (News: Tiananmen Square)
  9)  Love and Rockets- So Alive
 10) Public Image Ltd.- Disappointed

well, at least they've fixed the font problem on the setlist page. I'm guessing the Kate Bush and PIL were serious rarities if not bustouts like the 10K Maniacs. So there's that. Had I been listening instead of just following along (couldn't tell from comments which KB tune she played) I might've felt a tad less cranky/depressed. But the rest was pure MoreyTrinaVille.

10000M & PIL are indeed bustouts; Kate Bush she played one before in one of her first sets.  I don't think this set was bad at all.  A few general overplays but some rarities to balance it out & a few middle-of-the-roads.  The Pixies are more of an AL-trina than a Moreytrina.  But, today the flow worked.

A ton of results for Adrian Belew "Oh Daddy" on previous 10 @ 10s...so why have I never heard it on KFOG before ???

i'm encouraged by the fact that there were three serious rarities in one set. But the fact that we're still getting mostly 80s and 90s (and newer) sets is still majorly distressing. And I can't even fathom what the edicts that were outlined in that Cumulus conference call that Mike posted over in the KFOG But Not 10@10 thread might have on the future of our fave feature. There is no joy in Mudville.

There were alot of those kinda songs in the Morey era.  And I've never figured out why KFOG has NEVER had the Smiths in regular rotation (and still doesn't as far as I can tell). How high could their negatives be, focus-group-wise?
