Request line is open! Lots of Exile On Main St. requests...hoping to hear a deeper cut like "Let It Loose".
-
Lots of good requests but also lots of frequent fliers. ("Layla", "Long Cool Woman"? jeezus.) I suspect this will be in the mold of the last couple of '60s sets.
-
Some guy in the FB thread used the phrase "frequent flyer"! (and he used it to describe Cat Stevens' "Sitting" which actually isn't one).
-
Damn, I was hoping to get AL to play a year from this period for my b-day, which is Friday (he said, examining the complimentary quarterhorse's molars very closely). However, just the fact that they're finally playing a year from the first half of the 70s is making me happy, so I'll let it slide and prepare to hear 1984 on Friday.
-
cliche opening of all time: "Reeling in the Years". Oy.
eek: "Saturday in the 'Trinas" (sorry, Swellegant, this is Oldies 103.7 territory).

True, but Elliot Randall will live forever because of the guitar solo!
-
I've been waiting such a long time......
Excellent.
-
Oh no she didn't. Double oy.

Welcome to the greatest hits of 1972...

I saw this tour at the Oakland Coliseum, they did the whole enchilada! There was some scruffy country-rock opening act, thought they were New Riders wanna-be's. They were called The Eagles.

Ha! I saw the Eagles open for the Beach Boys in '74.
-
VHM O'Jays, but this set so far is as I feared.
jeezus, "Lets Stay Together" makes it official: this is 1972 For Dummies.

Pretty sure it is just the original single edit. But that's just a guess. I have a 17 minute live version that came with the enhanced cd, which is pretty good...

uber-BOS5 Nilsson.
"Oh Miss Annalisa, you're on FIRE today!!"
Sorry. Jeezus someone on FB spelled it "neilssen". Shoot me.
Not that this was bad or anything but AL is capable of so much more.

not at all, I just wondered where people heard the Raspberries. I was imagining that since people were younger than me, and I was here in SF listening to KSAN, most people had other radio experiences in 1972. I recognize Eric Carmen's excellent voice, as a musician, I just find it a bit saccharine. I don't really include it in Power Pop, like "Girl of My Dreams" etc. but that's just me.

In NYC the "prog" station, WNEW-FM played the hell out of all things Raspberries/Carmen. How could anyone ignore the fact they were a Beatles hommage?

Sounds more like he's channeling Orbison to me.

I believe you are right, sir. But nary a bustout in sight--the L&M tune is about the closest to a rarity, I think.

Was it the loooong version of "Angry Eyes"? I'll listen tonight and find out!
"Thick As A Brick" was one of my FB requests, glad it made the cut, would have been the bustout of the century if it was the entire album version!
