Her hint was The Big Lebowski.

The Dude abides. But I won't.
Not a great year and even if I had access to my wish-list (on my other still-in-the-shop PC) I suspect it's a very short list. I predict BNLs and the Goo Goo Dolls. But I'll be elsewhere tomorrow at 10, methinks.

She didn't look like she was about ready to take requests, but I rattled off a few just for kicks:
Black Lab - Time Ago
Tori Amos - Spark
Savage Garden - To the Moon & Back
The Blenders - (I'm in Love With the) McDonald's Girl

I was wondering

nobody writes down the songs anymore?
-
Not when I'm not listening. ;)
per FB, she's played Harvey Danger "Flagpole Sittah" (which someone thought was Green Day); Smashmouth covering ? & the Mysterians, and Loreena McKennit. Which to my mind says I haven't missed a goddamn thing.

(I just joined in; had to get Rod's new sound effect in use!)

UPDATE:
ooh, shocker, Fastball's "The Way". Also Alanis, "Thank You" and Rufus Wainwright (I'm guessing "Hallelujah; the FB post didn't specify).

I'm barely listening, and in 1998, well, I'm lucky if I can identify half of the artists. Somebody covering "What Condition My Condition Is In" right now...

apparently it's the Kenny/First Edition original -- because it was in Big Lebowski...
-
can I WOS "Zoot Suit Riot" even if I'm not actually listening? Someone actually requested that. Someone I recently "friended" and I may have to re-think that.
-
AL has her Cake and plays them too.
-
and yes, they're, like, TOTALLY gushing on FB about this set. "Awesome!!" etc.
-
I sense your dismay, Mike. Still, aren't "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby" and "The Mummer's Dance" bustouts?

"Mummer's Dance", yes. And the Alanis, too, apparently. But we've visited '98 5 times in 2 years (and one of those was a rerun of a previous show!) and this is the 3rd time she's played the Smashmouth cover of Question Mark, making it a Katrina, precentage-wise. Everything else has shown up at least once, it seems. (well, Kenny Rogers was in '67 or '68 ;) ) For a year we've rarely hit, that's a lotta repeat songs. But hey we avoided Train and "Closing Time", so there's that.

9/6/11- Tuesday! Droppin' In on...1998!!
1. Fastball- The Way
2. Harvey Danger- Flagpole Sitta
(Movie: Big Lebowski)
3. Barenaked Ladies- One Week
4. Smashmouth- Can't Get Enough of You Baby
(News: President Clinton-time to move on!)
5. Loreena McKennit- Mummer's Dance (B.O.S!)
(Ad: Mac vs PC)
6. Rufus Wainwright- April Fools
7. Alanis Morissette- Thank U
(Movie: Big Lebowski)
8. Kenny Rogers & the First Edition- Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)
(Movie: Big Lebowski)
9. Cherry Poppin' Daddies- Zoot Suit Riot
(Movie: Big Lebowski)
10. Cake- Never There
OK, it seems the Rufus Wainwright is a bustout too. And if I'm not mistaken, the Loreena McK is the only one that was actually being played by KFOG in '98; the others were Live 105 and/or Alice staples, some of which appeared on KFOG *years* later. In '98 KFOG was ignoring BNLs "One Week" and playing their "It's All Been Done" instead.

Apart from Rufus, Y & S, as Mike would say. This Mummer's Dance song was NTM, and from what I heard on YouTube, no thanks! The Colourfield's cover of 96 Tears was tolerable...Smashmouth's, not so much. I always feel like some big sweaty guy is shouting in my ear whenever I hear them.

A few WOS's (Harvey Danger, Cherry Poppin' Daddies) and a few too many repeats but I actually think this was an above-average 90s set. A lot of songs from a variety of formats (though most of these were AAA-friendly pop hits; even the CPD & Loreena McKennitt hit the Top 40) that were big back then that don't get too much airplay anymore. Good flow and sounded totally 1998. My biggest complaint about 90s sets is they usually have WAY too many Hot AC recurrents; the only ones this time were Cake, the BNL & possibly Fastball. Hot AC could still be playing Loreena McKennitt if they wanted to...but they don't. They usually don't play anything from Alanis past her first album, either.
