Title: Wednesday July 13 - it's 1992
Post by: urth on July 13, 2005, 10:05:38 AM
And we're starting with a B52s song I don't think I have ever heard before. Good? Bad? Indifferent? Discuss.

"Good Stuff"? I think not... tho' Dave does get props for a breakout. But Fred sounds especially annoying on this one -- clearly trying to clone the previous, most-successful-of-career LP.

"So let the people say we're downright nasty - I just say we're down right."  Always liked this song though it's a little overproduced and self-consciously hit-conscious, following in the trails of Cosmic Thing's massive success.

Anyone remember what year Prefab Sprout's "Appetite" was from?  I've had that stuck in my head yesterday and today.

that's funny. i wanted to say '92, but i remembered this song as later, for some reason. actually, it's that i remember the album before (the one with that other chevrolet song) being released in '92, but that's just age catching up with me, i guess.

"good stuff." a fun cassingle to have owned. haven't thought about it in years, though.

ooh! a peter gabriel song that doesn't mke me want to kill myself!

Nice bubble-it-up bass from Peter Gabriel on "Steam," a fine track overshadowed by its son-of-Sledgehammer video.

This has been a year of major workplace transitions for about half the Clubhouse (Davefish, Alicat, POC, Geoff, me), so I should think you're due for something progressive to happen.  I hope the new job will let you retain your flexibility of schedule and travel.

Though I've read a lot of Heinlein, but not nearly all of it.  His style can become a bit oppressive.  Of the books LL appeared in, I think I read Time Enough For Love and The Cat Who Walks Through Walls, but that was long ago -- those brain cells may not exist anymore.

"Bad blood" is an understatement.  Tina, who apparently is a deep-end case, has said amazingly awful things about David in interviews in recent years.

Just finished reading a THeads bio called This Must Be The Place, and safe to say, yes. Tina has little patience for Mr. Byrne and his ego. Chris seems to be the peacemaker.

Jerry's living in the area these days (since garageband.com's heyday). I see him out around town about 2-3 times a year.

If this were A-Z week, "Come As You Are" would be preceeded by James Brown's "Cold Sweat, Parts I & II".  One of the great segues in KFOG history & they do it every year.

(of course I'm biased, because when I said so to Annalisa 3-4 years ago she taped it & I wound up in the promo for the rest of the week.)

I'm flattered you think I might have been able to place that. I have read a number of Heinlein's books but not for a good while. Stranger in a Strange Land and Time Enough for Love were both great, although the latter could have been edited down by a hundred or so pages and not lost much. The Moon is A Harsh Mistress I really dug too.

Very good point -- "Best Things in Life Are Free" would have been perfect!  Dave has a general aversion to Miss Janet that I find inconceivable.  And if he's gone for Charles & Eddie at all, it hasn't been in recent years.

Also consider that he's become the ultimate alt-rock martyr, so his reputation is magnified accordingly. Tortured artist, died young (albeit by his own hand), and had the poor judgement to marry Courtney Love.

A friend of mine was Steve Albini's assistant when they recorded In Utero in Minnesota--he doesn't talked about it a lot, but did tell some great stories about going to Mall of America with Dave Grohl and riding the rollercoaster.

Thanks for all the positive karma everyone!  The interviews went really well & (long story short) I'm being recommended to the VP, whom I will meet on Monday.  She gives a thumbs up & I got it.

The postion is executive placement/IT recruiter with Robert Half Int'l in SJ.  RHI is a really big, expanding company that specializes in both temp & perm placement in several divisons.  They are revamping their IT perm group after the enforced hiatus of the dot.com crash.  The two guys, Ryan & Jason, had already interviewed me 3 weeks ago, and at that time they had 1 position open and 1 more to fill later in the year as business growth allowed.  Later they told me that they offered the initial position to an experienced perm recruiter that they had interviewed before me, but on Monday Ryan called me back to say that they had booked so much business in June that they got the 2nd req approved & wanted me to come back in.  So I did & it went really well. Now I know I'm not actually competing with anyone else, it's just a matter of making as good an impression on the VP as I have on Ryan & Jason.  Jason told me, "We want you to meet Susan (the VP).  She almost always follows our recommendation, but she has the final say."  He then proceeded to spend the last 15 minutes coaching me on my meeting with her.

But I'm not allowing myself to think that it's in the bag by a long shot.  I got to do some research online and bone up big time.  If y'all can give me one more Karmic push on Monday that will help.

Hey Y'all, send me all your positive vibes this afternoon from 2:30 to 3:30.  I have a 3rd interview, and I really want to get this job.  Could be a huge jump in salary.

Most certainly will. 3rd interview?--sounds like you made the final two. Go knock 'em dead.

Won't jinx it by asking too much, but if you get it, ya gotta give us all the deets.

Yay! Fingers crossed, bub!

Who obviously could not measure up to Phil Spector's perm recruiter.  Or is that perm teaser?

Gaz, you're killin' me.

(Btw, we're neck and neck to our respective post threshholds (2K vs. 1K). Mike blew us out getting to 4K tho)
