It's AL's turn to pay homage to the Bo Diddley Beat.
I figured we'd get the usual suspects, so I've requested The Smiths (How Soon Is Now?), The Clash (Hateful) & The Strokes fabulous (Last Nite). I was on the fence with this one...but Dramarama (Anything, Anything) has the beat...or am I imagining it?
-
So we're celebrating death anniversaries now? ;)
Funny, I was predicting '80s tomorrow and hopiing for 1967 on Friday -- the 3rd of June, another sleepy dusty delta (birth)day.
Dave's Diddley set from 3 years ago:
1. Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley
2. Bow Wow Wow - I Want Candy
3. Rolling Stones - Not Fade Away
4. David Bowie - Panic in Detroit (BEST OF SET!!)
5. Eric Clapton - Willie & the Hand Jive
6. George Thorogood & the Destroyers - Who Do You Love
7. Bruce Springsteen - She's the One
8. George Michael - Faith
9. Pretenders - Cuban Slide
10. U2 - Desire
BONUS TRACK: Beck - Black Tamborine
-
I plus-1'd someone's suggestion of Mr. Brownstone by Guns N’ Roses
-
Chrissie's doin' the
hand jive Cuban Slide!
-
Chrissie does the old Cuban Slide. I'd prefer an Old Cuban
(http://www.liquorsnob.com/archives/pictures/Old-Cuban)
-
Mmmmm.... Cuban drinks.
-
BOS1: Not Fade Away
-
Hmm. I wonder how many repeats we're gonna have in this set... ;)

Anything but Mark Cuban!

especially considering the suggestion thread was quite long last nite.

Or Fidel Castro and his brother, Dennis (or was it Duane?)
-
NOOOOOOOOO! WOS Crapton, "Willie and the Hand-Job"
-
NOOOOOOOOO! WOS Crapton, "Willie and the Hand-Job"
That's the slowest hand jo - I mean jive!
-
Clapton: Today's nominee for "Is it better to die young or to age painfully?"
With fierce competition from Rod Stewart.
-
Mmmmm.... Cuban drinks.
for those unaware, an Old Cuban is in the Mojito family, only substitute champagne for club soda and serve "up" rather than on-the-rocks.
6 mint leaves
1 ounce simple syrup (or less, to taste)
3/4 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
1 1/2 ounces Bacardi 8 (or substitute another medium-bodied gold rum)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Ice
2 ounces chilled champagne
-
They don't call him "Slow Hand" for nothing. Never really liked this themed set when Dave did it.
Shave and a haircut, two bits.
-
"How Soon Is Now?"
Time to dance slowly and ironically.
-
BOS Da Smiffs.
-
BOS Soho, er, I mean The Smiths. I usedto think the lyric was "the sun and the air" rather than "the son and the heir".
and you go home, and you cry, and you want to die...

More subtle ideas for this set:
Uncle Tupelo - Acuff Rose
Led Zep - The Lemon Song
Led Zep - Trampled Underfoot (a fast version, listen for it.)
-
BOS QMS!

-
Yay Bowie, panicking. BOS2.
"I found Anthony Wiener crouching in his overalls"
-
ah it's that big turd Bono (see: a rerun of South Park that aired last nite).
I don't get the hate for him. Sure he bloviates, but it's generally in a good way.

Did you BOS it before or after the bong hit? ;)
-
Suffice to say, Bow Wow Wow gets BOS. Although, I'd love to hear a different song from them.
-
Personally, I think candy wrapped in a sweater would be inedible. But BOS4 BWW.

Well, it was my suggestion, but I guess the charm is lost in the mists of time, and also there's a guitar angle that most folks don't pick up on.

I will BOS it... One man's tedious is another's, "Hey, that's a pretty cool jam."
Also BOS to Bowie and Stones.
And to Swellagant's Clapton comment -- It's better to burn out than to Not Fade Away.
Whatever that means. I have a serious head cold and my brain is fuzzy. Bleh. :-\
-
Huh, this Smiths tunes has the Bo Diddley Beat? I *guess* so, if you held your finger along the turntable while a Bo Diddley record spun.
