Title: 11 May 2011: it's... 1982
Post by: RGMike on May 10, 2011, 08:15:00 PM
The thread has just begun on FB.

Lawd help us: requests for "New World Man", "Steppin' Out" and "Abracadabra"...

Oh, and some guy called  "Start Me Up" the "worst song the Stones have ever recorded". Worse than "Emotional Rescue" and "Fool to Cry"??

Welcome back!

worse still: Giter Dunn wants CSN's "Southern Cross".

Interesting: someone asked for TinTin's orig "Kiss Me", which I completely forgot was out in '82 -- I remember the '85 version credited to Stephen "TinTin" Duffy (which I requested in our last 1985 set).

I can't figure this Giter Dunn out.  What's his deal??  I must say, I always enjoy Dave Dirt's requests.

I've requested 88 Lines About 44 Women, but doubt she'd play it since he says "shit" in it.  It was a Quake & Live 105 staple back in the day.  I can't remember if there was a censored version or if they just played it as is.  Also requested Angst In My Pants and...wait for it...Gloria by Laura Branagan.  Guilty pleasure from hell for me and I ain't ashamed of it!

Yeah, Giter is a strange egg. He'll request a few great tunes and the follow them up with total shite. No accounting for taste. But he does have a sense of humor.

Dave used to play 88 Lines... in his Thanksgiving Turkey sets, so he must have edited the shit out of it.  ;)

It's on my wish-list too -- one of the great pop singles of the '80s, IMHO and a fab Donna Summer imitation (I thought it *was* her the first time I heard it).  And if you've never heard the original Italian version...

KFOG posted this on FB:

"Don't forget Fogheads, according to some guy in Oakland, the world is ending on Saturday May 21st. We'll celebrate musically on the KFOG Morning Show on Friday May 20th so be sure to let us know what you'd like to hear!"

It really annoys me when the Morning Show glom onto what would've been a great 10@10 idea...

Just got here at the end of The The, so BOS #2 for Dire Straits.

Can anyone else name another song containing the word 'spanner'?  (I can)

Last but not least, a big Best Line of Set vote for the line: "Two men say they're Jesus. One of them must be wrong."

Neither "Don't Change" nor anything by Gary US Bonds is in the Morey-era Db.  And I gotta believe The Capitols makes bustout number 3!

ETA: I meant Capitols cover.

VHM VH, of course.

And BTW, what *was* Belinda Carlisle's deal -- I know she's married to a guy (James Mason's son) but she was one of the butchest-looking women in rock. Joan Jett's more feminine.

Well, you know she's got the beat!

But seriously, The Go-Go's had a pretty great rhythm section, especially on that song.

the very short hair really gobsmacked me at the time. And when she started dating Ron Cey I got all excited, thinking maybe they were each other's beards.
