AL's request line is filling up fast...

So we had '96 yesterday and '76 today--is this going to be one of those weeks where each year is a decade apart? '86 tomorrow, Cinco de Mayo on Thursday and '66 on Friday?

1986 might be the one year for which AL has clearly outperformed Dave. Wouldn't entirely surprise me if that's this week's menu.

I was thinking it hadn't been that long since our last '76 visit, but it appears it's been a good 2 1/2 months--February 18, to be specific. And '86 is even longer absent--Feb 1 was our last trip there. So both were past due.

I am loving this funky start, both Rollercoaster and the 2nd song (NTM).

1976 was a year I heard in retrospect, through car radios and at the doughnut shop. Oh, and at the roller rink.

I was thinking about requesting something from this album but got sidetracked. And Georgia would have been a strong contender. Guess AL got my message anyway. :D

Magic Man takes me back to 1976 everytime I hear it on 10at10, but I can hear it every day on one of the 17 Classic Rock stations in the Bay Area.  Guessing this was a Foghead request?

Oh. My. Effing. God. Flo & Eddie's comeback try, Keep It Warm, has to be one of the deepest tracks AL has ever pulled out. I don't think it charted very high if at all. Must look. Unquestionable BOS!

THIS is what makes 10@10 great. Agreed on Mshray's assessment on "Magic Man" - unquestionably a great track, but I really don't need to hear it anymore.

Here 'tis, funny promo film, based on his being sued for "My Sweet Lord" and other hassles.

Some people just don't get the humor of self-referential songs* like this.  I do, so BOS for Wings.

*they love it when it's bitterly (& overtly) ironic, as in whatsename's "I'm not going to write you a love song."

My mom had Songs In The Key Of Life on 8-track.  I suggest you go out and get this album ASAP!

I recall a few years ago Springsteen met up with Paul and said, "When 'Silly Love Songs' was out, I didn't get it, but now that I'm older, I understand."

I took my 3 year old son to Toy Boat Cafe for some ice cream yesterday.  We walked in and soon after he announced, "Hey, I know this song.  I LOVE this song!!!"  It was The KKK Took My Baby Away.  I don't know if I should be proud or horrified!

Alas, I missed the replay. But here's the lyrics to Keep It Warm if anyone wants to examine closer. Quite a few pointed political and social references.

Quote from: Flo & Eddie
"KEEP IT WARM"

Words and Music by
Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan

Write another song for the money
Something they can sing, not so funny
Money in the bank to keep us warm

Stick another grape in the juicer
Or fill your guts with grease and get get looser
You are what you eat , so eat it warm

Roll another joint for the Gipper
Get the Gipper high, he gets hipper
Stick it in his mouth and keep him warm

Elect another jerk to the White House
Gracie Slick is losing her door mouse
Take her off the streets and keep her warm

Fight another war if they make you
Squeal on a friend or they'll take you
The future's in your lap, so keep it warm...

   Warm, here in your arms
Safe from all harm, where I belong
   Warm, cozy and calm, another
   Dawn together warm....

My woodie's broken down by the beach now
And TM's gotten far out of reach now
Tell the Mahareesh to keep it warm

George is suing Paul, suing Ringo
and immigration wants John and Yoko
All they need is love, to keep them warm

Kill another whale with your power
Or shoot a bunch a kids from a tower
Snipe them in there cars

Blood keeps them warm

Or

Make a better world from the old one
Make yourself a baby and hold one
Hold her in your arms and keep her warm,

Keep her warm, Keep her warm,
Keep her warm...........

   High concept Music, BMI

Note: This was released four years before Reagan was elected president.

While doing a little digging around to see what Flo & Eddie are up to these days, I just learned that, among the members of their east coast touring band (they have a separate band for the west coast--go figure) is Greg Hawkes, late of the Cars. Who knew?
http://www.theturtles.com/documents/turtles_now.html

And also learned that Mark Volman (aka Flo), when not being reliving past successes as a Turtle, is head of the Entertainment Studies program at Belmont University in Nashville.

I'm Facebook friends with Howard Kaylan. He lives in Seattle now, posts some interesting comments as well as memorabilia from their days in the Turtles, then with Zappa & the Mothers, then as Flo & Eddie, and when they had a radio gig in NYC.
