Title: 29 April 2011--It's Knights, Dames and Knaves for Friday
Post by: urth on April 28, 2011, 12:50:05 PM
In her comments on requests for the '69 set from Thursday, AL mentioned that we'd be likely to hear Dusty Springfield and "the boys from Abbey Road" in a special set on Friday. Hmmm...anyone got a clue as to what theme she might be working on?

Perhaps it has to do with the Royal Wedding Friday of William & Kate.

Yeesh -- I could imagine a set of wedding songs but sounds like she's doing an all-British thing. Hrm.

Or perhaps British artists doing songs of love?

Per FB, it's a set of royal rock by various lords, knights, and other of Britain's rock gentry. So I guess that means it's Beatles, Stones, Elton, and perhaps Boomtown Rats? But how does Dusty Springfield figure? She's a Brit but was she ever given an MBE?

ETA: Ah, I see she got an OBE on the day she died, per wikipedia.

Bah.  I've done everything I can to ignore this Royal Wedding nonsense, and AL throws this at us.  Oh well, the music should save us.  I wonder if she'll play the Princess Di version of "Goodbye Norma Jean".

Like the "dweam wiffin a dweam" clip, but I really don't need to celebrate royalty.

I saw some of it on telly at the hospital today. The nurses were really grossed out by the idea of condoms with the couples pictures on them.

I wouldn't stand by Annie Lennox either, if she's going to keep shouting like that.

Sheesh.  I guess I'm the only one here who was up at 3am....

I can't think of a way to respond to that without sounding sexist!

There would have to some kind of drinking game for me to watch that stuff:
Drink every time someone says "magical" of "fairy tale"
every time someone mentions "she entered a commoner, and left a princess" or words to that effect
every time someone mentions Princess Di

That should have been enough.

It's 3AM you should be sleeping"

That's all I got.

Dang, she cut off the SNL skit just before the announcement of Lord and Lady Douchebag!

ETA: BOS for "The Punk Meets the Godfather".  Quadrophenia music is very rare on 10at10.

ha, a classic!  too bad, b/c that skit did a lot to keep "douchebag" in common parlance bag in teh 70s when it was in danger of becoming obscure.

BOS-drophenia!

My BOS is going to the 'Oo, methinks.

Still no Beatles; I'm predicting the set ends with All You Need Is Love.

ETA: BOS2, Sir Mick et al, Live With Me.  AL is making some pretty nice picks, not surprisingly.
