Title: 25 April 2011: it's... a "classic" from 1983
Post by: RGMike on April 24, 2011, 08:31:45 PM
No clues as of 8:30 Sunday nite.

My first thought was maybe she's on vacay but it turns out Webster's off all week. But maybe AL is having a long weekend? Or maybe she joined "Events & Adventures"? (boy am I *SICK* of those commercials!)

speaking of sick, Renee sounds terrible!

ah, it's a 1983-run.  Huey does his best Macca imitation.

1983. Did you hear that *croaking* announcement of the sponsor? I think it's a sick Annaliza. Oh, that was Renee... Maybe the whole office is down.

Huey's sounding good to me today.

it's the unbearable longness of Huey!  But seriously, what McCartney song is he imitating ? it's always bugged me.

VHM and proxy of shray, Red (Rockers) "China".

i probably said this last time, but the original was a fave of mine when i was 5 or 6 -- an early illustration to me of songwriting craft.

BOS3 Aztec Camera.

Reminds me of a hilarious moment. I was at a friend's concert who happened to play drums as well as fronting the band. He asked if anyone had requests and my buddy yelled out "SU SU SUDIO!"

"Wings of a Dove"? it's the Specials, and it's BOS4 for me.  This is a "classic" worth the name, IMHO.

I meant the calypso stylings, not that it was actually Buffett. And it looks like this song (belly of a whale) has a similar style. I guess the Caribbean was popular in the 80's.

ooops you're right -- Madness, not the Specials, who I often got confused back then.  But def not Jimmy Buffet.

btw, English Beat (first?) released Can't Get Used To Losing You in 81, so I guess it charted in 83, is that what's going on here?

VHM Thompson Twins. Moody (but not moldy) cheese. I have to BOS Aztec Camera. This set is nice but kind of middle of the road. No bustouts.

I think several were bustouts the first time around -- Thompson Twins, I think, and possibly English Beat too.

VHM Aztec Camera -- Oblivious. A band I first heard on 10@10.

I started listening to 10@10 in 94, it had been going on for a few years before that. But don't know how many

BTW, AL posted on her FB page:

"Good morning! 10@10 is coming up...is it live or...do I have Monday off? Enjoy and have a great day!"

and she linked an Ella Fitzgerald "is it live or is it Memorex?" commercial. Cute.

Heh, I meant this re-run of "1983". But good to hear 10@10 has been around that long.

Yah, when we liberated Grenada (thank God!) everyone was all "oy mon" and playing steel drums everywhere.  I think you're too young to remember those days.  ;)

that one was NTM, and not bad.  it's by Madness:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GZw3vMyF0M

non-sequitur of the day, a comment on AL's FB page:

"My parents had this Perry Como album, they played it all the time."

I'm guessing he confused Andy Williams with Perry Como?
