Amazingly, we haven't hit '94 since December. I'd've sworn '96 and '99 are more overdue. Get yer licks in -- we're already getting requests for Corrective Soles.
But props to Meredith Santiago for beating me to the Carpenters-covers-CD punch and requesting Shonen Knife, which I heartily seconded. It's looking good for us to hear that one, methinks.
-
Put my requests in for Cracker, Kate Bush, Smashing Pumpkins, Sass Jordan and Aimee Mann.
-
Toad the Wet Blanket ain't no TOTHK. Things will get better, tho'

I don't think I've heard this song since 1994. It sounds alright today.
-
Here's yer Aimee Mann. I like her.
-
Here's yer Aimee Mann. I like her.
BOS "That's Just What You Are," a fitting sentiment in my world today. ::)
-
Here's yer Aimee Mann. I like her.
One that was actually a KFOG playlist staple at the time.
-
VHM REM, "Bang & Blame" -- or as Lisa Carr used to say on Live 105, "here's a song about Alex Bennett's sex life"
-
VHM "Bang and Blame." I didn't recognize the Equal clip.

Just got here, what was the TtWS song? I like them because they are Santa Barbarians like I (& Geoff) used to be.
-
VHM "Bang and Blame." I didn't recognize the Equal clip.
Kevin Spacey, Swimming with sharks -- relatively obscure, as AL movie clips go.
-
another *big* KFOG song from that year, NRBQ doing their best John Hiatt imitation.
-
REM's least annoying song...but still annoying. Not to mention it's totally an ALtrina by now.
-
Overheard the first few songs but just got to the computer. VHM Toad -- snoozy but a good album for contemplating the cycle of life, aging, and death. Aimee Mann was NTM, and I liked it.
A "shrug" to REM with their grunge album. Big REM fan but Monster was just one-note and irritating. I like a few songs (Crush with Eyeliner, Strange Currencies) but it's definitely a low point.

Heh, that explains why I thought it was Hiatt. Anyway, HM.
-
BOS for Lyle Lovett! I dig penguins too. A bustout?
-
Lyle Lovett with horns. VHM.
-
BOS Lyle Lovett & Penguins!!!
-
Penguins are so sensitive to my needs. Lovett, OTOH, is not.
-
I'm assuming that the Toad song was "Fall Down".
Lyle Lovett: On my all-time Guilty Displeasure list.
-
Rather snoozy so far, mostly. And Petty ain't helping.
-
WOS, Most unnecessary & Moodkill: Tom Petty.
-
Penguins are SOOOO sensitive.

1994 was about major college drinking (and mostly not by me). A friend put"Say it ain't so" on repeat and then passed out. Woke up the next morning and it was still going. Green Day, Alice in Chains, NIN, etc.
-
WOS to this NTM Petty yawner.
-
WOS, Most unnecessary & Moodkill: Tom Petty.
Totally having the same response. :(
-
And hey, here's my Weezer but yet another slow song. I'll VHM it for the rest of the album. WOS to Petty, he gets played by AL in any year.
P.S. mshray: your avatar is super distracting. Heh.
-

same here.
Should we add TP to the 70s rockers > 80s hitmakers list?

well every time I change it to something else the gang (even those here not oriented to lusting after women) always complains until I bring her back.
I have to BOS Weezer, there's really no reason that KFOG doesn't play them in their normal rotation, and now that Channel 92.3 is defunct I have half as many chances to hear them on the radio.

he only became super annoying to me in the '90s actually
-
Best Lyric of Set: Grant Lee Bufffalo, "Mockingbirds." A staple of my '94-'95 listening.
-
NRBQ doing their best John Hiatt imitation.
I always think the same thing.

I would second that.

Agreed.

Very funny. :)

Thanks, nice to be here! Thanks to my student for cancelling class. :)

I'd never heard this song before. I like it.
Ooh! VHM: Jeff Buckley
-
Grant Lee Buffalo...while worth a VHM does nothing to help the ZzZzZzZzZzZzZ-factor.
-
Another BOS for Jeff Buckley.
-
If we don't get Shonen Knife to wake things up (after the landslide of votes and "likes" for it on FB) I'll be VERY pissed.
-
Another BOS for Jeff Buckley.
Nicely timed; they just announced plans for a Buckley biopic. I wonder if James Franco will lobby for the lead.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Why, was Buckley perpetually stoned? ;)
-
VHM "Bang and Blame." I didn't recognize the Equal clip.
Kevin Spacey, Swimming with sharks -- relatively obscure, as AL movie clips go.
I like how he says "i don't care if there's Fairy Dust in it.." because.. well, you know.
Is this Radiohead? sounds like Thom Yorke... I like it. ETA: it's Jeff Buckley
I'll add Lyle Lovett to my Guilty displeasure list, although he gets bonus points for looking like another famous person

Green Day: better. VHM but we know what I'm holding out for.
-
I'm giving a WOS for Swimming with Sharks. I really don't want to see that, and I don't want to hear another painful clip.
-
I am MAJORLY pissed. MAJORLY.
-
Yeah, no cheating by playing repeated clips from the same movie in a single set. Reminds me of how she jams on the "Mr. Microphone" clip like 10x whenever it comes up. "HEY GOOD LOOKING" *smash smash*
I think AL is way lazy on the clips. Too bad because I often like those more than the set.
Almost WOS for Green Day. That riff is so repetitive.
Didn't like this set much even though I liked 1994. I don't know why everything had to be so downtempo. BOS Aimee Mann and Jeff Buckley, both NTM.
-
Jeff Buckley couldn't save this set. Neither could Green Day. 1994 did not have to be this boring.
-

My sentiments exactly.

NRBQ doing their best John Hiatt imitation.
I always think the same thing.
When Big Al Anderson, the Q's ex-guitarist who wrote LBoB, became a bigtime Nashvegas songwriter, John Hiatt was one of the people he wrote with. So frink points to y'all for picking up on the similarity.

and not just the song but the vocal. Uncanny similarity, actually.

We're so in tune with the straight and narrow. :) But the vocals are also Hiatt-like.

close enuf for a JINX! (Hi[att]-jinx?)

yes, a sound-alike, but maybe not a think-alike. ("NashVegas," I like that.)

Har-har. :)

one of the FB-Fogheads actually voted a VHM to John Hiatt!
And tho' AL suggested in her BOS post that this was a set of songs KFOG was playing back then... I don't recall them playing the Jeff Buckley (BOS winner) and they definitely weren't playing Green Day or Weezer (tho' Live 105 was).
-
4/14/11- Thursday! Sounds Like KFOG Radio in 1994!!
1. Toad The Wet Sprocket- Fall Down
2. Aimee Mann- That's Just What You Are
(Movie: Swimming With Sharks-Kevin Spacey)
3. REM- Bang and Blame
4. NRBQ- A Little Bit of Bad
(TV: The Simpsons)
5. Lyle Lovett- Penguins
6. Tom Petty- Wildflowers
(Movie: Swimming With Sharks)
7. Weezer- Undone (The Sweater Song)
8. Grant Lee Buffalo- Mockingbirds
9. Jeff Buckley- Last Goodbye (BOS!!)
(Movie: Swimming With Sharks)
10. Green Day- When I Come Around
Wasn't able to tune in today, but it looks like I didn't miss much. Would've BOSed Weezer, even though My Name Is Jonas Bros is a zillion times better than The Sweater Song.
-
I am MAJORLY pissed. MAJORLY.
I know, right? I would've bet the house she was gonna play Top Of The World! Green Day? Talk about ov-ah-rated.

They definitely played "The Last Goodbye" back when he was alive. I don't think I've heard KFOG play his version of "Hallelujah" during regular hours.
-

Yes, "Last Goodbye" was the first I'd heard of Buckley, and it was definitely on KFOG.
That's funny about the John Hiatt vote.

BreakingNews: Robert Pattinson apparently has the inside track for the Jeff Buckley role.

Thought it was gonna be James Franco (who I could see playing Buckley).
