Title: 12 April 2011: it's... 1968
Post by: RGMike on April 11, 2011, 06:36:40 PM
Sadly, I have a 10:00 meeting so I'll wait for the replay on this one.  Someone asked for "Sunshine of Your Love" -- I resisted the urge to say "just turn on K-Fox and wait 10 minutes..."

I was following up on the earlier discussion w/AL of release date vs. charts.  Here is SF, it was an instant FM hit.  But everyone has different memories.

Oh, and in NYC too. but the masses who didn't have FM radio back then were out-of-luck.

Good News -- 10:00 meeting cancelled, so I get to hear this fabulous year.

Once again, AL plays what sounds like a different mix/alt take of "Those Were the Days". VHM, but coulda been a BOS.

BOS1 Ringo & the fabs, "Don't Pass Me By"!  Kind of an old-timey twin-spin!

That's what it probably is, but it does not quite sound like the version off of Truth.  Another alternate version, maybe...

VHM the Mustang, which was introduced in 1964.  KJ trivia question:  What is the other US muscle car, also named after a horse & still in produciton today, that was introduced in 1964?

Those were the Days is an earworm to me.  ugh.

I forgot this was an Otis Redding song originally.  There goes any last pleasure I will ever get from the Black Crowes' version

BOS Deep Purple!  Ush Ush!

I never noticed before, but I think the piano from "I Can't Quit Her" was lifted by Steely Dan for their song "Kings" on their debut album.  That's a deep cut I should ask Annalisa to play one of these days.

listening to replay.  1968 was my high school graduation year, so starting off with "Those Were The Days" now has double meaning!
