And let me be the first to say: Whoever requested "Nothing Compares 2 U" is likely the type of person to make one want to break things.
-
I'd rather hear NC2U than Another Day In Paradise...

I'd rather hear NC2U than Another Day In Paradise...
Not to mention the Sundays and the B-52s.
And I note (again) that a '90s year attracted only 20 "suggestion" comments, whereas '74 generated 50.
We're supposed to have an earthquake drill at work today; it will no doubt happen during 10@10 because that's how my luck runs.
-
"Another Day In Paradise" is particularly galling as it's clearly an '89 release, but that hasn't stopped Fogheads before, so why should it now?

BTW, if ya think Fogheads are bad... I was looking at the "live chat" feature on The Drive's website today; there was an exchange in which someone said that Springsteen is "the cheap version of Bob Seger" (!) and says "look at their live shows -- there's no comparison!" Meaning Bob is like, SOOOO much better live than Bruce. (!!) He also griped that today they did a 1979 10@10 without any Seger (even tho' he only had one charted single in '79).

Our earthquake drill almost made me miss "Blue Sky Moreytrina"
-
BOS - Midnight Earl, as my old Brooklyn landlady might've said.

Yeah, but who IS gonna shave me?
HM for Random Numbers band memories.

I'm snoozing a bit so far... but at least these are NTM. Except for Deee-lite...
-
'Mats? Westerberg solo?

personally, I always hope for pop or soul in the '90s because Dave always avoided those genres (except for a few choice Katrinas like MC Hammer or Haddaway). Hope we avoid "Birdhouse in Your Soul" this time.
I also think Twin Peaks was WAY overrated.
BOS "Groove is in the Heart", frequent flier tho' it is.

BOS2 Soho, "Hippychick"! Best. Smiths. Sample. EVAH.
-
The intro to Soho "No Hippy Chicks" is from How Soon Is Now? Weird, never heard that part. This song is a bit repetitive, almost all chorus.

BOS to the hippy chik

Holy shitballs! BOS Hippy Chick. I haven't heard this in 20 years.

Pixies - Dig For Fire
-
"I'm Vegan for Fire"? "I'm Digging for Fire?" Ah, Pixies. NTM. I have all the albums but Bossanova.
Was in a restaurant in Oakland and they had Come On Pilgrim on their iPod. I told them it was pretty bold given their somewhat middle-aged clientele to play Holiday Song. The hostess turned red but thanked me.

and this was YEARS before the music business ran out of songs to sample! (a famous Onion piece about that is on the internets... somewhere...)
-
BOS The Pixies. I believe I saw them at The Warfield that year.

NTM too -- VHMFRA!
BOS3 "Ring of Fire".

educate me please. I really did the Bo Diddleyesque intro to Hippy Chick. Is that a sample from another song?
-
Pixies, Soho, Dee-Lite, Social Distortion - I think I'll give a pass for "Blue Sky Mine" being played again.

The intro is very clearly a sample of the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now?"
-
I just heard the word "Swellegant!"
-
It's all so swellegant!!!
BOS for Iggy and Debbie! "Drink up, Jim."
-
Hey Swellegant, is this song name-checking you?

"been there, done that"?
-
Hey Swellegant, is this song name-checking you?
I actually got the name from an episode of Mad Men last year. But the producer of Soho was named "Timothy", so perhaps... TANC!

Cole Porter coined the word, I do believe.

This is from Twin Peaks right? That's a show I've got to see what all the commotion was about.
-
If Debbie Harry somehow pops up in a Dos Equis commercial, I'm headed for Vegas.
-
Hated Twin Peaks; loved the theme. BOS5 Mr Baldamenti and friend.
do I detect the warmth of vinyl here?

back in the day, we used to eat lunch at this place on Division near 11th called American Chow. It had wood panelling, and they played the theme now and then, it really was spooky!
-

Holy cow orkers, you guys! It's Little Feat!
-
Another BOS to Julee Cruise, though a bit snoozy for 10@10 IMO. Loved Twin Peaks, but then again, it was my first year in college in '90.

'90s Feat ain't really Feat, if ya know whut ah mean.
This was certainly one of the more interesting 1990 sets we've heard, (tho' "damn good" is overstating it).

I remember that place. A little building crammed into an odd-shaped lot ... they had good burgers.
BOS to Angelo Baldamenti! Twin Peaks held my attention for a good 10 eps, but then I was like, WTF?! and lost contact.
Oh! I forgot that Iggy & Debby thing was from the Red Hot & Blue Cole Porter compilation, an AIDS fundraising effort. Lots of good stuff on that. Have You Ever? wasn't my fave from that record, though.

I had that cassette and remember loving the Sinead and Neneh Cherry tunes.

I've got it on CD around here somewhere--I remember digging it quite a bit back in the day, but haven't played it much, probably since before I moved to SF in 98. It's likely among the "various artists" section of our CDs, which are still packed due to a shortage of shelf space here. Someday...

Worth checking out, but keep your expectations in check, at least initially. It's one of those you really have to dig into deeply to get what it was about. Definitely a product of its time.

Surprised no one commented on the Eno/Cale tune, although iirc, it's not the first time that one's been out of the garage.

apropos of 1990, since I requested (but didn't get) Biz Markie's "Just a Friend"... Gaz posted this on FB: the 1968 song Markie sampled in his goofy hit:

Sounds like you need consultants to come to your place and build CD shelves in strange places! Oh wait ...
