AL said something on FB about a "mini-vacay" -- dunno if that means a long weekend or what. So prepare for a possible "classic" or 2.
Kinks start us out on a low budget -- this sounds familiar. If the next song is "Goon Squad", this is a set from Dec 2010.
-
Dunno the Kinks but sounds like George Thorogood or Ted Nugent (referring to guitars, not vocals)

I didn't catch the end of the morning show...is this a classic repeat? I remember hearing this Kinks song fairly recently...

DING DING DING! A pretty decent set from 12/14/10 (well, except for Dr Hook getting hard)
I have so many great '79 requests in the hopper... guess they'll have to wait a month or 2.

KFOG's playing a tune from it -- heard it the other nite and thought "who is this? it sounds so... '80s!" And it was Ric & da boyz.
VHM "them white boys who think they can do reggae" as a cow orker called The Police back in '79.

is this the Tubes? BOS->NTM

were you absent on 12/14/10? I don't think we have a note from your mother on file, young man!
VHM Steve Martin on SNL. Ditto HotChoc, "Every 1's a Weiner"

Yep. Re Styles dueting with Fee on vox, from their Remote Control album.

heh, I probably was, but I don't have the memory you have. I could hear this song 10x and still say "NTM!" on the tenth.
that's no lie.

BOS2 "Slap & Tickle" -- I think this was a bustout in Dec, and a worthy one.

I predict an uncontrolled giggle fit from from AL on the back announce, b/c I said this Dec 14, 2010:
AL says "That last one always makes me giggle..." heh, we couldn't tell!
Also from 12/14/10: "BOS - Cars & Hot Chocolate: two great tastes that taste great together"

And I'd like to take the credit for requesting it ;D
Regarding the Cars - is this their first release of new material since 1987? And is it one of the more obnoxious cases of "putting out material because we have to"?
-
BOS, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life".

Yes and Yes. (actually I don't know if they "have to", but they feel compelled to)

Didn't they do something that involved Todd Rundgren a number of years ago? Probably something that did not enhance the reputations of either.

"b/c we have to" as in a contract obligation? I don't think that's the case. "b/c we think it will $ell?" quite possibly.
the "New Cars" vomited out a recording with Todd Rundgren taking the role of ectomorphic geek frontman a few years back, but that band only had Elliot Easton (a left handed guitar god) Greg Hawkes (keys, webmaster) in it from the orig lineup. they filled out the remainder with Utopia's bassist Kasim Sulton and Tubes drummer Prairie Prince. orig drummer David Robinson didn't participate, Ben Orr died a few years ago and Ric "Cndy" O was apparently still too busy climbing the Paulina Porizkova stairway to heaven to participate ... but who knows why he and David jumped in here. Ric put out a few solo things here and there, but I don't know what the cars as a Group did b/w 1987 and The New Cars.

Todd toured with them, but I don't think they released a record together.

I bought it at the Tower Records closeout/funeral sale. Played it once, maybe.

Oops. Well, "Rockwell" (I always feel compelled to put his name in quotes) on KFOG the other nite called the new one their "first album in 23 years" so maybe the Todd one doesn't really count because they called themselves The New Cars.

that's true. They are two completely different bands, although when The New Cars released their record in 2006, I saw them as the new lineup of the band I knew and loved back then. they couldn't get the rights to the old name, I assume.
One of my few brushes with stardom involved Ric Ocasek and Paulina. I saw them at an Andy Warhol exhibit at MOMA in NYC back in 88 or 89. between the two of them they must be 14 feet tall and weigh 260 pounds. Paulina smiled at me!
