Title: 25 March 2011: it's... 1995
Post by: RGMike on March 24, 2011, 03:59:28 PM
and the request thread is up'n'running...

I went with

Smokin' Popes, "I Need You Around"
Des'ree, "You Gotta Be"
TLC, "Waterfalls"

but damn, Bear Toffoli is a man/woman/person after me own heart with 10 mostly pop & dance suggestions.

Guessing (but definitely not hoping for): better than ezra, bush, stp, collective soul, alanis, foo fighters, garbage

Not a chance but I was listening to: Offspring, PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, Pantera, Alice in Chains

Hopefuls: Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Sonic Youth

that's the same "Bear Toffoli" person that RGM says is "after his own heart."

Hmm, maybe you want to qualify that, RG?  Looks like Bear also requested Sheryl Crow... doh!

Hell, someone else requested "anything by Hootie & the Blowfish :)"  Hoping that emoticon means she was kidding, but I got a feeling she wasn't.

Yeah -- he requested, like, 8 pop/dance hits... plus Merchant-Crow.  He was hypnotized, mezmerized.

ETA: actual FB post from this afterrnoon: "Me and Bobby McGee…never get tired of hearing this!"  I weep for America...

I'll take that over somebody wanting to hear "God Bless The U.S.A." or "Have You Forgotten?"

I had 2 Fogheads give "+1" to my TLC & Des'ree suggestions; that has never happened to me, I don't think. So we'll see. Hoping for pop but fearing a Morey-style KFOG-playlist-fest.

Thanks Rad-347 for requesting Ini Kamoze, another one that's on my wishlist.

Outside of 10@10 I wasn't listening to KFOG much that year; mostly Live 105. Which was indeed a hodgepodge of the good (Edwyn Collins) and the crappy (dreck like Live).  Pop was more interesting -- I was thrilled to see someone request Vanessa Williams' "Colors of the Wind"! -- but I suspect AL will not go there.

Of course the noodling is mostly courtesy of Mr. Santana. Not that I have a problem with that.

You mean me? Hey, I don't hate the blues. What I don't like about them as part of 10@10 is they never "chay-ay-aaaange"...

Blues matured long before rock and roll discovered them. Led Zep's first couple albums were blues-heavy, and while I like them, aren't distinctive. But when they expanded and distorted the blues into hard rock, things got interesting.

10@10 to me is about songs distinctive to a time (or theme). Keep blues to an all blues set.

The mid-late 90's had a ton of this kind of "lite rock" female-led cooing. Hard to tell apart from "I'm lying on the floor and torn"...

It was tacked onto their LP iirc, and was only issued as a B-side of a single because it was indeed all over the radio.

"This House Is Not A Home"

she'll play LP cuts if people remember them or if they got airplay (this tends to be more likely in the '60s & '70s).

VHM to Neil Young channeling the Tragically Hip.  His rocking song are much better than the slow droning ones (tho "Bandit" wasn't bad), I wonder why he doesn't do that more...or maybe it was just radio that didn't play more.  She's played this one a few times too, but I think it's been awhile.
