Are Rupert W and Ben Folds an item? or are they just... touring together?

No crankpants today.  I got nothing but love.  I just think those lyrics were WAY too lazy: "it was four in the afternoon when I wrote this tune" -- dude, we don't know you, so don't get all meta on us.

Meantime, I can't put this song where I want it.

And I've never heard that Ben plays for our team; I assume they're just tourmates.  Still, that song would feed both Ben's eccentricity and Rufus's dramaturgic muse.

Semi-jinx.  If the song were 1:15 it'd be grand.  But it repeats itself without going anywhere, making it the Boston Rotary of instrumentals.

I once taped a 1972 set that had both "Conquistador" and "Put It."  If we get the Hollies' "Long Way Home" and English Congregation's "Softly Whispering" later, then Dave's been recycling.

I wonder who will play the Shelley Winters' part(s) in the 2 remakes. They should just release the fuckers on the same day. I bet people would try to see both in one day & break some kinda record or something.

I love that mini-drum breakdown, where he goes, "I been down one time < crash, crash > / And I been down two times < crash, crash >" -- later updated by Roachford on "Cuddly Toy" as "If I told you once, I told you three times < crash crash crash > / If I told you three times, I told you FIVE times!"

ProxyOfCairo to the Dan, natch.

She and I sang this at karaoke a few days before I moved from SF to Boston.  I was trying to give it a "CA Dreaming" vocal treatment wherein I'd repeat the lines after she sang them.  Didn't work as well as I'd envisioned.  But I got laid a half hour later.  So there's that.

I got tickets to the ballgame tonite so I won't be home, dammit (a buddy of mine gets to be the first-base balldude). I'd thought about rolling it cold this morning since I'm working from home, but Dave caught me flatfooted when he blew off the commercials and I wasn't ready. Dammit.

Nobody bit, but you might be surprised that the answer is FIVE.

Albertson -- "Subject Was Roses" (?)
Borgnine -- "Marty"
Buttons -- "Sayonara"
Hackman -- "French Connection" and of course later "Unforgiven"
Winters -- I wanna say "Patch of Blue"? and the other one escapes me.

It was fun -- the stories he told escape me at the moment, I'll try to come up with one (you can listen at Steven's website, BTW). Steven was giddy with delight to have him there -- he stayed for the whole 2 hours, as he was (natch) plugging his new LP which sounded pleasant and inconsequential, tho' there was a duet with Chrissie Hynde that KFOG could conceivably play. Rather hear that than new Tracy Chapman

Hudson has been Starr's producer (as well as, occasionally, for Aerosmith, Hanson and others) since the recording of the 1998 Vertical Man. He's done four albums, including the recent, very well-received Koch release, Ringo Rama. They've been friends even longer, dating back to the early '70s, when fellow Beatle John Lennon was in L.A. for his “Lost Weekend” period. Pals with both Starr and legendary songsmith/singer Harry Nilsson, Hudson was even in attendance that fateful night at The Troubador when Lennon heckled the Smothers Brothers and was asked to leave after donning a sanitary napkin on his head and annoying a waitress. “It was a pretty raucous time,” he recalls.
