Title: 17 March 2011: it's St. Patrick's Day!

evening deejay Rockwell (whenever I hear him I picture the guy who did "Somebody's Watchin' Me") hinted there'd be a "special" 10@10 but he didn't specifically say what theme.  If it's Irish bands I predict AL faves the Undertones. I'll be at an off-site meeting and will have to catch up on the replay.  Here's last year's set for comparison:

1.  Van Morrison & Them- GLORIA
2.  Stiff Little Fingers- Alternative Ulster
3.  Rory Gallagher- Walk On Hot Coals (B.O.S!!)
4.  Thin Lizzy- Whiskey In The Jar
5.  The Waterboys- Fisherman's Blues
6.  Sinead Lohan- No Mermaid
7.  The Pogues- Dirty Old Town
8.  Sinead O'Connor- My Lagan Love
9.  The Undertones- Teenage Kicks
10.  U2- Out Of Control

Oy vey begorrah, bring out ye penny whistles and ye harps.   this is so Acoustic Sunrise.

Have I told You Lately That I Love You? Van Morrison and The Chieftans

I know an Irish lass who refers to Celtic music as "That fiddly-idee-doo crap."

Think we'll get and Captain Corned Beefheart?

I wouldn't mind some John Gary. "How are things in Gloccamora?" would do just fine.

Who's doin' LL Cool J?

OK, is this Bono or the guy from the Alarm as the male half of this duet?  Pretty damn MOR set so far in any case.

The quiet Irish storm continues with Bono and some lass crooning over a soprano sax.

BOS  Rory Gallagher   and this Irish roadhouse bloozy number, Country Mile.

It's NTM... I have a Rory Gallagher DVD at home somewhere.  I should trot it out.

oops, here's more "fiddly idee doo" from, sounds like the Pogues and the Irish Rovers?  or more likely Shane McGowan singing w the Irish Rovers.

(A friend will be seeing the Pogues in NYC tonight... I wish I was in NYC right now at their St Pat's Parade.)

Or maybe the Chieftains w/ Shane? I didn't think it sounded exactly Pogue-like, but then there was McGowan's voice.

here's your Whisky in A Jar.   BOS Thin Lizzy, always.

I watched some PSB show where Frank McCourt did a tour of Irish pubs and he recounted how the phrase "whisky in the jar" came about: during WWII glass manufacturing was restricted due to scarcity of materials and energy, so ceramic jam jars were often used at pubs to serve the working class.

ETA: Of course, Frank was pulling our leg.  he likes a good story he does.

Seems like the song started long before WWII ever happened, per wikipedia:

Can't say I've especially enjoyed anything in this set, so halfhearted BOS to Sinead.

And one more fiddly-idee-doo to wrap us up. No clue who, unless it's another pogues tune.

Ah, Flogging Molly. There you go.

The Emporer's New Clothes

guess the Emperor buys his clothes at the Emporium?

ETA: AL just posted a clip of Horslips doing a song called "King of the Fairies". I'm surprised Horslips have even *heard* of Jobriath!

fwiw, I would have ID'd the Clannad song, I have the CD & it's really good IMO.  There are at least two tracks I like even better than this.  I might have gotten Horslips, I still have a couple of theirs on vinyl, but haven't played them in forever.
