Elvis dies again. (AL just now posted her "clues") And back-to-back 10:00 Meetings again for me Mon & Tue.
-
I called Annalisa last Thursday to ask about today's set & if I could request something for TC's & my b-day, and she said she was leaning towards either a 70's chartbuster set or 1977. I said I'd rather make a '77 request than a Top 10 request & she said "Okay, that seals it, send me an email when you think of what you'd like to request" (I was in the car heading to OAK to get Gaz when I called). I called TC to let him know also, but I'm not sure if he followed through. Couple hours ago I got the following email from her:
Happy Birthday, Mark!
I hope you had a fruitful trip to Amoeba after your brunch (my favorite weekend meal:)
I'll be giving you a radio birthday wish later on, but thought I'd give you an email one first!
Wishing you a great day. Thanks so much for being part of the 10@10 fun.
Take Care,
your radio pal,
Annalisa
PS-I couldn't tell which other 10@10 friend you said was celebrating a birthday today. I only see the Facebook group b'days. Are they also on FB? Aaaaanyway...wish him a Happy Birthday for me, too!
-
Get ready for a big guitar riff.
-
Yea, a big AL shout-out to Shray, one of our "Core" members!
-
Happy Birthday Shray and TC! Sweet shout-out. BOS Clapton &
Shakespears Sister Marcella Levy.
-
Happy day to all!
-
Happy day to all!
Yes, we've rolled a lucky triple-7: it's '77 on the 7th!
Now roll some Grateful Dead dance music!
-
I gave a passing thought to requesting "Samson & Delilah", BOS #2!
-
Need some new '77 news clips.
Doobs remind us we're Livin' On The Faultline.
-
Need some new '77 news clips.
Wait? Was there a drought in '77? ::)
Seriously, I remember having to put a brick in the toilet to conserve water.
-
BOS #3 to the Doobs for the nice xylophone solo.
ETA: correction, after checking with Allmusic I find that was a vibraphone. Interesting bio on the guy playing:
Victor Feldman (1934-1987) was a child prodigy who was a professional from the age of seven and sat in on drums with Glenn Miller's Army Air Force Band in 1944 when he was ten. He was active in his native England through the bebop years (mostly on drums), debuting as a leader in 1948. By 1952, Feldman was getting better-known for his vibes playing and he recorded extensively during the 1950s. After touring with Woody Herman (1956-1957), he decided to move to the U.S. in 1957, where he worked at the Lighthouse with Howard Rumsey. Feldman recorded (on vibes and piano) for Mode, Contemporary, and Riverside during 1957-1961, a period in which he became a busy studio musician. Feldman was with Cannonball Adderley's Quintet (mostly as a pianist) for six months in 1960-1961 and recorded with Miles Davis in 1963 (who offered him a job with his new quintet and recorded his original "Seven Steps to Heaven"), but remained in L.A. and the studios.
TANC - The picture of me at Amoeba yesterday shows me holding up the CD I got of Glenn Miller's Army Air Force Band. He might even be on there.
-
BOS #4 Pete & Ronnie, giving it up everyday.
-
Townshend and Ronnie Lane - My Baby Gives It Away:
"My Baby, I love her, she's cheap."
and yea, Christopher Glenn "In The News"
-
A BOS from me for the Feats.

Need some new '77 news clips.

Yup, and a serious drought again here in late 80's.
Time Loves A Hero who uses a brick. And maybe we'll hear some Brick? ;)
Of course now we have high-tech low-flow toilets, as the minerals from a brick aren't really good for your toilet and plumbing.
As Pablo Cruise advises, find your place in the sun. :o
-
BOS #5 the Feat. An alternate request I gave Annalisa was from this album, "New Delhi Freight Train", but this is the song I played for Gaz while we were driving into SF yesterday. Which made him tell Mike that he has a new appreciation for Lowell George's songwriting.
-
BOS Place in the Sun. This is what I was listening to. Makes me happy. Wish I could turn it up......

Two years ago at the County Fair I saw these guys, set included a faithful rendition of this tune. Afterwards got to hang out and speak with all of them for ten minutes, nice guys.
Cuz its only jukebox music!
-
Another song I glanced at when considering my requests. BOS Kinks "Jukebox Music"
-
BOS goes to Joan Armatrading for "Show Some Emotion"! I've always thought that "Hell In a Bucket" was highly influenced by this tune. She's got some Steely Dan bits in there too.

Very much so, good observations!
And now, EW&F provide mo' cowbell!
-
Bust at work and hearing pieces of everything. It ALL sounds great!
-
BOS to Lust Fo Life. Well, I'm just a modern gal!

As long as I'm checking Allmusic credits thought I'd see if there's any connection. Found out that the sax on this song was by Mel Collins, who also did the solo on "The Core", and played on "My Baby Gives It Away" as well!
One last BOS, for Iggy, yet another tune I looked at for my requests. The only thing Annalisa didn't play today that I wish she had is Television.
-
BOS Jet, er, I mean Iggy! ;)

I can bet my house that she has this on vinyl.

And, since its 1977, Elvis sez happy birthday to Shray and Tink:

Glad shray and TC got shoutouts and requests, but otherwise this seems like a better-than-average-but-no-bustouts kinda set. (Yes, I'm feeling churlish today).
I'll miss tomorrow's too -- hoping AL does Mardi Gras, tho'.

Certainly preferable to being a modrin man. (Yes, I know that's a different year.)

Collins was also a member of King Crimson for a time in the 70s (played on Lizard, In the Wake of Poseidon and Islands) and toured with Dire Straits following Love Over Gold and Brothers In Arms. And was also a member of Camel, as I just learned from AMG.
