Title: 4 March 2011: It's... a mystery year (1968)
Post by: sundaygal on March 03, 2011, 08:32:00 PM
Another mystery year, folks.  Hey, at least it was on FB!

I can't believe it's already March.  Wasn't it just Christmas???

I'll guess 1993, and I won't be able to request "Here Today Gone Tomorrow".  :-\

I had a Math teacher in college who explained why time goes by quicker as one ages... one's mind doesn't expand at the same rate as one's collective memories. Or at least that's how I remember it.

Quick glance says '94 and '96 are even more "overdue" than '93, not that it matters. AL will probably surprise us with '77.

Strictly speaking we didn't get a 60s set this week either, but I'd guess the 1970 set on Wednesday is filling that role for the week. So yeah, a 90s set is what I'd expect as well.

Surprise! a '60s set after all!  BOS "RGM" (no, not me; "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man")  and then AL tightens it up, fo' me, now.

it must be 1968, yeah?

ETA:  It occurs to me that the live version on Live Bullet in '76 is an extraordinarily faithful reproduction of th eoriginal.

last time Gaz was in town we caught one fo Richie Unterbergers presentations, and it featured an amazing live version of Sly, not least because it was from a concert in the Dallas area and the crowd was 60-40 black, apparently only a month or two after MLK, and they were groovin' - not hatin'.

is anyone watching Idol this season?  They have way better male talent than the last couple years, possibly ever.  On Tuesday the top 12 guys performed & one of them did this.  Steve Tyler said that Screaming Jay must be lookin' down & smiling.  Gaz, I saved this on the DVR & want to get your take when you're over tomorrow.

Seriously, I had all but given up on Idol, but J-Lo & Stevie are really a huge improvement.

One of the FBers said "It's 4:20 somewhere."  I liked it.

Bullitt!!!!!!!

Anyone who's seen Zodiac should know that Mark Ruffalo (pardon, me I mean 'Academy Award Nominee Mark Ruffalo') plays the role of the actuall SF cop that Bullitt was modeled on.

Zodiac is one of THE great films of the past decade. Another reason Fincher is overdue for an Oscar.

Yep. that's him.  He's only a teenager and looks like he's 28.  He has already accompanied himself on upright bass twice thus far.  Very jazzy.  There's also a guy who is the reincarnation of Luther V., another teenager who just might be the reincarnation of Johnny Cash, another guy who'd be the reincarnation of Ray LaMontaigne (sp?) if Ray were actually dead, another guy from Santa Cruz who'd be the reincarnation of Adam Lambert if he were dead (but instead of being gay, he's unemployed, married with an infant AND he's got Asperger's and Turret's).  This latter did Judas Priest & knocked it Out Of The Park.

Although it might have been for the Traffic tune.  Perfect synthesis of Traffic with a sparkling Garcia-like guitar figure!

You Can All Join In has been covered by lots of acts.  An Irish psych-garage band called Orange Machine did a nice job with it.  Have you heard it?  (I can't find a youtube of it, but I have an mp3...)
