All is well - Miss AL is taking requests on FB. Phew...
Bust out the leg warmers!
I've requested Haircut 100, Altered Images and OMD. Like, OMG. :)

All is well - Miss AL is taking requests on FB.
Woo Hoo!
but apropos of Swellegant's comment yesterday... someone actually requested "Winnning" by Santana. ::)
-
"Winning" has been requested at least two times, along with "Who's Crying Now", "Cool Love", "Slow Hand" and "The Breakup Song". If "Kiss On My List" gets played, I will boycott this year (that's the only song for which I've gotten into an auto accident while listening to).
-
Well, after three days of not taking requests, she sure got a hell of a lot of 'em for this set. Guess people were saving 'em up. Too bad 95% of what they're asking for is crap. Man, you'd think some of these folks *never* listen to the radio.
My luck, Thursday is the first day this week I haven't had something to do or someplace to be at both 10am and 10pm. I'll have to trust AL to pull the gems out of this pile of dreck.
-
2-3-4! U2 make their album debut. Tho' not their 10@10 debut.
-
Dave used to play part of this "Searchin" song in Mystery Year sets. Santana? At least it ain't "Winning".
-
Oh dear god. I had really hoped we wouldn't sink this low. (Dives for the volume knob.)
Here's hoping the second half of the set holds some redemption.
(WOS2 The Tubes, Talk To Ya Later. Another SF stalwart goes over to the dark but highly profitable side.)
-
Play some New Wave already. Yikes.
-
Oh dear god. I had really hoped we wouldn't sink this low. (Dives for the volume knob.)
so I guess we'll "Talk to Ya later", eh?
-
WOS Tubes. I'm regretting sticking around for this set. Off to do laundry.

Was this from a movie soundtrack? Valley Girl? Fast Times?

Bet yer laundry is "funkier" than this set could ever be...

*Crickets* on AL's FB page so far...

The most overplayed Go-Go's song. I'll take it!

Their lips are sealed!
Maybe we'll get a Go-Gos/Fun Boy Three double play on this song.
-
WOS Styx. "givin' up hope" indeed. It's hard to believe such a calamity...
even "Giter Dunn" said "Gak!" on FB.
-
Maybe she's saving the good stuff for the end.....
-
Fiiiiiinally. BOS1 Miss Joanie Jett.
-
Maybe she's saving the good stuff for the end.....
fingers crossed. Some Fogheads just chimed in to say this set, like, totally rocks. ::)
BOS Joan Jett, esp since it's NOT "I Love RnR". She's a natch'ral man. I believe ya, Joanie.
-

Someone also mentioned that this set sounds like something The Band would play. Now, be nice kids...
-
If my girl Sandy starts complaining, then we know something's wrong. Please tell me "Jessie's Girl" isn't going to be played.
-

Just turned a corner with the Joan Jett tune. Hoping this is where the set is headed.
(FB aside: Despite the off-putting moniker and avatar, ol' Giter Dunn actually makes some good suggestions and seems to have decent taste. Unlike a lot of the regulars on AL's page.)
-
I'm gonna need a .38 Special after this song. I'm gonna lose control, indeedy.

I have a theory that Giter Dunn and Swellegant are the same person. An alter-ego sort of thing. ;)
-

hold on loosely, but don't squeeze the Charmin. WOS2 .38 Special. Yeesh and sheesh.
-
Tuned in late. Glad I didn't miss anything. I requested the Beat - I am you flag

Ah, you may have hit on something. Points for being far more perceptive than I. :D
Sad to say, this set seems to be cleaving pretty close to the album rock charts of '81, Joanie notwithstanding. Sigh. At least my choice for BOS seems pretty clear.

I'm suspecting that "Giter Dunn" is being ironic in his name/avatar.
-
OMFG! Gaz leaves and AL plays Marty Balin! BOS2 "Hearts" and proxy of the missing Gazoo.

LOL, I may have alter egos, but that's not one I would have thought up. ;D

This song reminds me of fern bars and faraway glances.
-
BOS2 Souvenir - OMD. Would've loved to have heard Joan Of Arc, tho. Beggars can't be choosers, right?
-
BOS3 OMD. AL loves these guys, obviously.
-
BOS to OMD. (They seem to have a monopoly on my BOS's from 79-81 sets...)

Sigh. Living out here in the cradle of fundamentalism has dulled me to things like irony. "Get 'er done" (in a variety of different spellings) is a slogan I see emblazoned on at least one monster truck daily. And there's a local construction co. that has it that as its name. So when I see that phrase my immediate reaction is "redneck idiot."
-
Like to hear something else from Sandinista - like Junco Partner
-
BOS3 The Magnificent Clash. Love this bass line. Is this verging on Katrina territory?
-
BOS4 Tom Snyder/Clash
WOS3 "Magnificent 7", one of the biggest 1981 Katrinas there is.
-
I had no appreciation of Tom Snyder until the first five years of SNL came out on DVD.
BOS OMD, I think.
-

LOL, I may have alter egos, but that's not one I would have thought up. ;D
While we're on the topic, I would be willing to bet that the Styx song was actually done by Loverboy.
BOS for Ms. Jett & OMD, and I was all set to add the Clash, but this is one that Dave played to death for so long that I can only muster a VHM. Still a good-to-great song. "Minutes drag & the hours JERK."
-
BOS3 The Magnificent Clash. Love this bass line. Is this verging on Katrina territory?
it crossed over long ago -- indeed, until AL played "Hitsville UK" recently, it was the *only* Sandinista! track ever heard on 10@10... many many times. "too fuckin long" indeed.
-

Long past the point of verging, I'm afraid. This was the only track Dave would play off Sandinista! But in this set it almost seems like a breath of fresh air.

And she teases us with Shaddap You Face!
-
Ha! I was thisclose to requesting "Shaddap You Face"!
-
2-3-4! U2 make their album debut. Tho' not their 10@10 debut.
errr, this was their 2nd album. Boy was their debut.

And I just love the Fogheads who jump on FB during the last song and say "what year is it?" Jeezus.

To be fair, at the time they probably were considered a new band, not having their first real US hit and all. And actually, given that I requested this song, I should BOS it.
And sunday, I haven't seen the term "fern bar" in print since... well, the day I took up reading.

Does anyone here remember Henry Africa's on Van Ness?

Yep. A friend of mine was a bar back there for a couple months in the early 80s (I think).

It's now a Chinese joint called...wait for it...HO's Bar & Restaurant.
