Title: 9 Feb 2011: it's... 1997
Post by: RGMike on February 08, 2011, 08:46:40 PM
Dolly the (cloned) sheep was tubthumping. Or something.

Is it my imagination, or does AL get far fewer FB "suggestions" when it's a '90s year?

Woo freakin' Hoo!  uber-BOS "Female of the Species" -- perfect segue from Dolly the Cloned sheep. Shock shock horror indeed!

WOS Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?  Vile lyrics and equally cringeworthy fake rapping.

aaack! John Hiatt feels like Eddie Vedder.  Well, they're equally annoying.

Is this John Hiatt?  in any case, it seems like one of the few songs with "manhole" in the lyrics.

Q:  What are manhole covers round?

ETA: now I remember this one: "When the little head does the thinking.."  eww.. another reason to not like John Hiatt.

VHM to Hiatt.

I'm mad that I was away last night and couldn't check AL's FB page.  Otherwise I would have requested OMD, Olive, Poe, & Duran Duran.

VHM "Wag the Dog" -- the last movie I saw at the fabulous Alhambra before it closed and became a Crunch or whatever it is now.

I'm guessing we'll get "Tubthumping" as a Pete Postlethwaite tribute.

It's truly one of *the* great singles of the '90s, IMHO. In my Top 5 for the decade, easily.

Thanks. I'd have preferred "D'Ya Know What I Mean", which is epic, but that'll do.  :)

Let's hope not. And perhaps someone should point that out to the new KFOG PD should he consider skewing the selection of years in a more recent direction.
