I caught AL's FB post just minutes after she made it. I'm hoping against hope for some soul, and suggested
MJ, "Black or White"
LLCoolJ, "Around the Way Girl"
Boys2Men, "MotownPhilly"
fingers crossed!

Love that LL song. Someone actually requested "Baby Baby" by Amy Grant. Oh, HELL no. She ain't no 'round the way girl, fo sho.
'91 was a huge alternative year, so I requested some Trashcan Sinatras, Catherine Wheel (LIVE 105 had a free concert in GG Park for them that year), and The Pogues.
-
It will never happen but I requested Cream by the Purple One. 91 was a toally meh season of music for me. I support you in your quest of soulfullness.

I have "Cream" on my '91 wishlist but since she played "Seven" for me recently I thought I'd try a diff artist or 3.
Yo, Stipe -- turn away from that yo-ho-homophobe.

VHM U2, acting like it's the end of the world -- Bono, you drama queen!
-
"Kramer's on Murphy Brown!"
Swellegant Tim gets his Huey!

There's no other way, there's no OTHER way! BOS1, tho' I suspect this is heading towards Katrina status.
-
BOS1 There's No Other Waaaay. Great guitar riff!

VHM RHCP, before they went dooooown hiiiill.
-
BOS for "Couple Days Off", which I could certainly use right now!
-
WOS RHCPs whatahgotchoogottagetitputitINyou.

on the one hand, Chili Peppers cut is least necessary. OTOH it screams '91
-
No idea who's doing this "Everyday Sunshine" thing. But I'm kinda liking it. VHM.

I had no idea either, but it's Fishbone. Good tune and group! Never heard 'em before.
Sly and the family bone, eh?
-
Fishbone - a band that my cousin in LA loved. Don't think it's a NorCal thing.

I remember their '80s stuff ("Party At Ground Zero", etc) getting airplay in NY but this one is NTM.

indeed, pioneers of the "black rock" boomlet that included Living Colour.
VHM Green Eggs and Jesse.
BOS2 and proxy of Gaz Jellyfish, tho' they're rather frequent early-'90s fliers too.
-
Gonna give this Jellyfish tune a VHM. Is it verging on Katrina territory, yet?
-
I still don't get why Jellyfish weren't huge. They hardly made a blip on my consciousness then, but now I wish I'd been paying attention.
-
Break out the Hacky Sacks! Yeesh.
WOS Spin Doctors.

7 appearances for this song alone in the Morey era --plus multiple plays of other tunes of theirs. And who knows how many in the AL nearly-2-years.
WOS2 Tim Allen.
WOS3 Spin Doctors, which belongs in '92, methinks.
ETA: OK, the LP was released in Aug '91 but really didn't get airplay until the following year, iirc.
-
Ooh...here's yer MJ, RG! :)
-

the lyrics came true! you heard this song and it pissed you off!

Lawd have mercy -- we are SAVED! Truly his last great single, and another for the "imitation Stones riffs" set. uber-BOS3, VHM Slash.
He gave his baby a Saturday bang? WTF?

same here. my SO was into them back then, but I was clueless.
btw, Tim Allen did time for drug possession back in the late 70s.
On October 2, 1978, Allen was arrested in the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport for possession of over 650 g (1.4 lb) of cocaine. He subsequently pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges, and provided the names of other dealers in exchange for a sentence of three to seven years rather than a possible life imprisonment. He was paroled on June 12, 1981 after serving 2 years and 4 months in a Federal Correctional Institution in Sandstone, Minnesota.[18][19][20] Allen had the Federal Bureau of Prisons Register # 04276-040.[21]
BOS to MJ just because, but this simple riff sounds like something Janet would record.
-
VHM Slash, indeedy.
I still can't believe MJ is gone.
-
OMG, Swellies it's yer day. Buy a lottery ticket and do the Bartman. ;)
-

Dude! it's Slash! I'd love for the Stones to do a covers album of all the "imitation Stones" songs,
OMFG!!! "Do the Bartman"!! I'm gobsmacked. BOS4
Swellegant's been bribing AL again!
-
I met Nancy Cartwright once! (she didn't do the voice, however)
-
Can't have 1991 without Nirvana. BOS In Bloom.
-

did she try to convert you to Scientology?
BOS5 a lesser-heard Nirvana tune.
-
WOS, The Bartman
VHM, Michael

And *ducks* BOS1, The Spin Doctors. (the song is a personal sledgehammer, and I LIKE IT!)
BOS 2, Nirvana

I think I meant the melody, not the guitar riff. speaking of guitar dudes, it's Eddie Van Halen's birthday.
Kurt Cobain wrote some great songs. BOS

you are not alone...! not a sledgehammer, but I like it, too

Wish I had something to care about in this set...

Wish I had something to care about in this set...
But it went to 11!
Def one of the better '91 sets I can recall. And no Color me Badd!
-
I just read that Michael Jackson (co) wrote Do The Bartman..!
Wow, we really went out of his was for that little boy, even though he was animated and voiced by a woman! Impressive!

-

Yes, but for the purposes of 10 tunes, she took the liberty of ID'ing it as a TV item. DJ's choice ;)
-
VHM RHCP, before they went dooooown hiiiill.
I remember going to demo speakers with my friend Kevin at some audio store on Van Ness (Cambridge Audio maybe) shortly after this album came out. We brought it along, cranked this song up, and were summarily escorted from the store. I remember being told "This is a family store, we've got kids in here." Huh?!?
-
Fishbone - a band that my cousin in LA loved. Don't think it's a NorCal thing.
I remember their '80s stuff ("Party At Ground Zero", etc) getting airplay in NY but this one is NTM.
They used to play around here a lot in the 80s, along with the Funky Executives, Limbomaniacs, and others of that ilk. Can't say I remember hearing this song before though.
-
BOS2 and proxy of Gaz Jellyfish, tho' they're rather frequent early-'90s fliers too.
And yet we never hear their sole Hot 100 entry, "Baby's Comin' Back."
-

same here. my SO was into them back then, but I was clueless.
I saw 'em a few times back then. (Opened for World Party once at the Warfield--I was in my element.) They definitely had a schtick (they dressed like escapees from a Sid & Marty Krofft Saturday morning show) but man they could crank the power pop. Serious students of the school of Raspberries, Badfinger, and Rundgren. I was always amazed how their drummer could get a snare and a small kick drum to sound like a whole drumkit.

Can't have 1991 without Nirvana. BOS In Bloom.
"Thoroughly all right and decent fellows"?!?!? Who the hell was that?
