One of my fave years!!
And thankfully not what someone called in to suggest during the morning show: an all-Canadian 10@10. She mentiomed the usual suspects (Neil, Joni, Rush, Barenaked Ladies, Sarah McLachlan, a few others) but didn't think of Triumph or the Tragically Hip. Bummer. ;)

Oh, I dunno- Getty Lee sang a killer version of "Take Off (To the Great White North)" for a McKenzie Brothers comedy bit that used to get played on Dr Demento & stuff....

not to be confused with J. Paul Getty Lee.
-
Heh. Geddy. (shakes tambourine)
Take off!
To the Great White North!
Take off!
It's a beauty way to go...
-
yay! '74 and relatively obscure Cat Man. I'm ready, all right.
-
Well, we've got one Canadian so far, and a vilified Brit.
-
This morning when people were calling in trying to name canadian rockers, no one mentioned NEIL. I called Dave and said what about Neil, he sounded like "d'oh", forgot about him. Then he played me some Cinnamon Girl.
-
BOS Brownsville Station. Cheeze-rock at it's '70s finest.
-
HM to Brownsville Station, this version is vastly superior to the Motley Crue remake from a decade or so later.
And RIP, Cub Koda.

When your name is Cub... figures you'd have a buddy named Fang.

mmmm whatever gets you thru the night.......
what a great year!

BOS Stevie putting the moves on one of his backup singers. Tododavia en chevrolet! (Or whatever the hell he sez there.)
-
i-rock, i-ran, don't you worry 'bout a thing...
BOS Stevie

BOS2 Stevie
Todo da Bien Chevrolet!

BOS2 Stevie
Todo da Bien Chevrolet!
I haven't been paying very good attention, but Stevie caught my ear. Love this song -- BOS #1
-
Dave must have a plane to catch or something--it's 10:14 and we just started Super Hit 6. Could be he's got a long version in store? Nah.
-

Damn, I'm missing some good stuff. Words don't suffice to express how great "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing" is.
But an all-Canada set would have been cool. I'd add Anne Murray and Gordon Lightfoot to the list. And if I had the celestial jukebox at hand, something from Mynah Birds to represent Neil.

JINX! And I've been waiting months to use that line, too.
Proxy BOS for Gaz, "Star", Stealer's Wheel.
-
BOS2 Stevie
Todo da Bien Chevrolet!
Was that a response to my mangling of that phrase, or was it a
JINX?!?!?
-
And if I had the celestial jukebox at hand, something from Mynah Birds to represent Neil.
And Rick James, too!
And here's the second Canadian of the set: Joni, Raised on Robbery.
-
Gerry Ford into "Raised on Robbery". Heh.
and another Canadian too...

And the second song that refs a Chevrolet:
"he had a 57 Biscayne, he put it in a ditch..."
-
BOS3 Shuggie. Sad story, but a minor classic he'll always be remembered for.

"I'm a Mynah Bird, bitch!"
well, doesn't have quite the same ring to it...

Skynyrd, "Ask Me No Questions".
BOS4: Me; proxy WOS: Gaz.

Was he possibly saying chevre? which is a Spanish slang type word for "cool" I think.
-
Didn't someone post a DDT playlist a couple days ago that included this Billy Joel song?
-
BOS5 (and most welcome underplayed track of set): BJ, "The Entertainer".
I played all kinds of palaces
and laid all kinds of girls
So modest, that Billy.
-
Damn! shortest regular set in ages, no?
-
Dave must have a plane to catch or something--it's 10:14 and we just started Super Hit 6. Could be he's got a long version in store? Nah.
Yep, just a short set. Finished at 10:34. Shortest set that wasn't from 1966 in a good while.
-
Damn! shortest regular set in ages, no?
Yes. I just looked at the clock in anticipation of Greg Edwards (ooohh the voice) & CGSS and realised there almost a hlf hour to go.
-
my life was saved by rock n roll
If I'm wrong, well, I'll punish myself by listening to the cd..
hey baby, rock n roll

I think there's no CGSS today -- a "Live 8" special, I think he said.

no capital gold today? darn.
i returned last night from iceland. i mean paris. i mean berlin. it was a 30-hour trip, but a surprisingly relaxing one. i heart berlin. if all goes well, i will be moving there next month...
in other news, i watched "two days in december" last night. i'm not certain that's the proper title. it's the rolling stones family circus. great, great stuff! though the dvd skipped through marianne faithfull's performance. damn technology...
-
POC should perform on Rome or Berlin. Where in the world is she?
-
OMG you posted when I posted.

nice to hear your (cyber)voice, princess. we heart YOU!
-
The problem with waiting around for the Bonus Track is having to hear Counting Crows.
"Man I wish I was beautiful..."
So do we, Adam. Because that Sideshow Bob look is HELLA old.
-

that was three years ago, if you can believe it. mitte is the neighborhood in berlin where i stayed. berlin is the absolutely most dopest place i have ever been. i can't describe it, really. an enormously huge city with a small town feel. just beautiful! hidden city beaches with bars and djs that spin curtis mayfield all afternoon long...gorgeous architecture. bikes! bikes! bikes! toooonnnnns of places to play music. and, i swear, by the power of greyskull, berlin has the highest percentage of fine women per capita.
i have a couple of english teaching offers and a place to live. so i should at least TRY it. see how i fare for a winter. mmmm....beer.

yeah, i have to crashlearn german in the next three weeks. i can order beer and train tickets, and count to 20...still a ways to go.

in honor of the princess, obviously, the bonus track is Roxy Music, "Out of the Blue".

mmmmm.....what are we listening to now? i'm in love with my car on i-tunes right now, but i can head to any internet station...
-
we're switching to CG -- there IS Soul Spectrum alfter all (the Live 8 thingy is tomorrow).
-
it's the rolling stones family circus.
I'm picturing Bil Keane's dotted line going from Eton School of Economics to cavey rock clubs to Bianca's parlour to Altamont to David & Angie's bedroom to Nova Scotia ...

If Bil Keane saw C--ksucker Blues his head would explode.
