Looks like AL is going to celebrate the Capricorn kings (and queens) of RAWK. She's mentioned Bowie, Paul Westerberg, Elvis, Susanna Hoffs, Jimmy Page & Stephen Stills. Not a bad sign to be born under!

Oddly, Stevie Nicks is not a Capricorn. That really gets my goat.

BOS King and BGs. You know I loves me some Bee Gees.
-
whatchadoinonyaback?
-
OMFG: BOS2 Patti Smith, "Dancing Barefoot".
Patti's "like some heroine"; I used to think she was saying that she'd like some heroin.
-
No way! the REPLACEMENTS are all Capricorns? that's AWESOME.
-
VHM the 'mats. Or Westerberg solo. Or something.
-
No way! the BANGLES are all Capricorns? that's AWESOME.
-
No way! the MONKEES are all Capricorns? that's AWESOME.
ok, you get the idea. Good songs, but this is a silly theme, IMHO.
Still we love AL for being creative.

I dunno, I kinda like. A monthly set like this would be better (IMHO) than a birthday set of 10 songs from some artist that would bore me (like, say, Crapton)
-
ok, I'm guessing Nick Mason is the Capricorn in Pink Floyd. Syd always struck me as a Scorpio with Pisces rising.

I agree, 10 songs from anyone except Rush would suck hard.

Ooo La La! BOS3 Faces
-
Love this Propellerheads/Shirley Bassey thang. Which Bangles song did I miss?
-
BOS4 Miss Shirley Bassey w/Propellerheads.

Love this Propellerheads/Shirley Bassey thang.
Have you heard her cover of Pink's "I'm Coming Up"?
-
I'd agree that this theme, although hard to request songs for, is far superior to a "10 of the same artist" set. Still, the all-time worst, IMHO, are the "Live From The Archives" sets, which manage to eclipse even the typically craptastic Ka-Boom! sets.

hehe, AL acknowledges she played this in honor of Rod's bday, but says he has pretty much nothing to do with this cut (maybe some hand claps?) From what I heard (on wikipedia) he thought the song wasn't good enough for him to sing, so Ronny Wood did it. Rod has since recorded it and sings it in concert, etc.
Can we expect a astrological set each month? if I was AL I'd do it, it's a great way to play songs from all over the map.

an all-Rush set would kill every dog in the Bay Area ;)

Big double-take on this post as I thought for sure Mike had scribed it. ;) ;) ;)
Heard most of the set in the car, but missed the Bassey/P-heads, which would have edged out Ooo La La for my overall BOS.
biggest snub goes to Robby Krieger, who has the unfortunate b-day of Jan 8th. It takes a lot to overshadow the guy who wrote "Light My Fire" & played lead for one of the top 3 American bands of all-time, but Elvis & Bowie will do it to ya every time.

AL just posted on FB that we'll get "part 2" of this set next week. Which means today's set was "Capricorn One", har har.
-
ok, Michael Stipe is a Capricorn, so REM's EOTWAWKI counts as a bonus track
... but some here would say Eric Clapton is a Crapricorn, nyuk nyuk
-
BTW, I can't believe there are people on FB who misspell the band who did "Stepping Stone" as ...The Monkeys. Seriously, it has happened multiple times.

Call me a Grinch, but I wasn't a fan of the multiple holiday sets in December. The songs featured in the various themes were almost interchangeable if you ask me.

So, I take it you avoid KOIT from Thanksgiving to New Year's? ;)

Like the Live From The Archive Sets, I'm guessing that the multiple Christmas sets weren't necessarily AL's decision. The Concert from Kids set in particular had a "push product" scent to it.

Jesus was a Capricorn; but Kris Kristofferson wasn't.

I'm glad AL played If She Knew What She Wants. Such a lovely tune and worthy of Best of Set. Can't wait for the replay on Saturday! :)

perhaps worth noting that I missed the first song & came in to the set halfway through the 2nd. And from tune 2 to 3 to 4 all I kept hearing was that this was a "Happy Birthday set", and I'm thinking "No, this seems to be a 'Dancing' set." It wasn't until tune 5 or 6 that the KFOG voice guy said it was a Happy Birthday Capricorn set.
Oooh, NOW I get it!
ETA: and now I see that my son Adrian shares his b-day with (most of) the Bee Gees! Woo Hoo!

So none of these people are on the sunny side of 50... I wonder if Part 2 will include the 'youngsters'???

Frightening "we're really old" stat: Folks born on or before January 12, 1990 are old enough to legally purchase alcohol.

YIKES! That means I can start drinking with my oldest nephew in about a year and a half!
Come to think of it, that might be more of a 'YIKES!' for my sister-in-law than for me. ;)
(My nephew is pretty cool & very much inclined to the musical/performing arts.)

KFOG didn't replay this tonight! OTOH, it was nice to find "I Learned the Hard Way" and "How You Like Me Now?" still in rotation.

Last nite was VERY weird at that hour. I've grown accustomed to tuning in around 9:45 in advance of the replay, and hearing some of the "new" stuff they're playing (the last 2 hours of Big Rick is virtually all "new"). I turned on the radio at 9:50 and they were playing the loooong live version of "Freebird" (!) -- at first I thought I accidentally punched up The Bone; KFOG *never* plays "Freebird" (despite running "Sweet Home" into the ground) and certainly not the 15 minute version. That song ended at 10:05 and was followed by 7 minutes of commercials (they *never* play that many cmmls in a row) and then a bunch of "new" stuff and as Gaz said 10@10 was MIA. Computer glitch, presumably, and Big Rick probably went home early again.
The station really seems quite schizoid to me, since the new stuff Rick plays at nite is rarely heard the other 22 hours of the day.
Weirdness addendum: Someone posted this on the KFOG FB page:
"Big Rick signing off with Freebird, how cool! U will b sorely missed"
WTFF?? Was last nite Big Rick's last show? Anybody know what's up?
addendum to addendum: Big Rick Tweeted this earlier today: "I'll be back somewhere fairly soon but can't say. What happened? In NASCAR they'd say nobodys fault, it was just one of those things" Guess we'll be hearing him on The Band soon?

Just heard If She Knew What She Wants on the replay. I feel all Bangly now.
I know Jules Shear wrote this tune, as well as Cyndi Lauper's All Through The Night (which I also love). That's all I know about him. Is he worth checking out?

His band, Jules & the Polar Bears, made a couple of LPs in the early New Wave days. I remember a couple of nice tunes getting some radio play.
