Title: 11 Jan 2011: it's... 1970
Post by: RGMike on January 10, 2011, 08:58:12 PM
1/11/11: sadly I have a 10am meeting so I didn't make any requests. Looks like Alicat will get her Flaming Ember, however.

interestingly, tho' today is 1/11/11, no one's thought to do songs with "one" in the title. (tho' the Drive did number songs... yesterday)

I'd have rather ridden on the Westbound #9 than up around the bend for a TOTHK, but not bad.  I remember a nondescript hair metal band called Hanoi Rocks getting some Headbangers Ball MTV play with a pointless cover of it.

BOS Little Green Bag.  Love the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack, short but sweet.

BOS to Nicholson!  I have a cassette mix somewhere with that bit coincidentally segueing into Santa Esmerelda's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood."  One of my favorite inadvertences.

BOS2 to the Marmalade's Badfingeresque weepie "Reflections of My Life."  It was Dave Morey who introduced me to this - and to the band - way back in '96 or '97.

Yah, Badfingeresque, though I was thinking it was Holliesesque, especially in the harmony.  Nice tune.

So far 3 of the 4 tunes are One Hit Wonders, perhaps Reflections of today being 1/11/11??

per wikipedia, Reflections Of My Life was released in late 69, so I suppose this is one of those songs that could live in two different years.

nice harmonies.  for the next '67 set, I wouldn't mind hearing the Marmalade's I See The Rain

Oh, cute: from Cat's enviro anthem to Nader on the burning Cuyahoga ... to "Fire & Rain."  Heh.

heh, despite the sass JT gets around here at times (incl from me, too), how can you not like Fire And Rain?  Despite it being played on every single soft rock and oldies station in existence, I never get tired of hearing it.

Another one I can add to my "Songs that might make me cry despite their sappiness" list.

Beatles (yay) with one of their oldest songs finally done in 1970 > "The Led Zeppelin"

nice Led Zep song, don't hear this one too often.  Seems Jimmy Page ripped off himself and the Yardbirds with the opening descending guitar riff, which sounds a LOT like the opening to Shapes.

Paranoid's incessant numbing guitar and vocals.
... the birth of headbanging?

This was NTM and I thought it was amazing.  Loved the soulful harmonies.  Sounded Holliesesque to me too.
