Vote early and often for Teena Marie, "Lovergirl"
Done and done.
What's up with someone's Hootie request? Did she mean The Hooters? I'm confused. Both equally as gastly, nonetheless.
I requested some Strawberry Switchblade. One of my fave band names ever.

No Gerry Rafferty possible in '85, I'm assuming.
I seconded someone's picks: Teena Marie Lovergirl and Scritti Politti's Perfect Way, but I'd take anything from Cupid And Psyche 85
ETA: oooh, also wanted to add that Los Hooter's All You Zombies has surprised us (on at least one occasion) as being a decent song. I think a few of us were conditioned to think less of it, but it kinda rocks. Holy Moses, seriously!

I thought the band names were the gastly part, but now that you mention it... ;)

Ha -- Hooters didn't occur to me, you may be right. I was trying to imagine what she thought she saw in the pic of LiveAid that AL posted. Maybe she thought it was Woodstock 25?
And tho' "Perfect Way' is a onetime Moreytrina, it's been awhile (tho' I'd REALLY love "Wood Beez").
ETA: Damn -- can't recall the last time so many people seconded a request! Love the guy who asked for Loverboy, Springsteen and REO Speedwagon and said, "well, the REO is a bit of a guilty pleasure". And Loverboy ISN"T??
-
Has AL played "Perfect Way" yet? Yeah, Dave did kind of overplay it.
And seriously, "LOvergirl" has been requested enough times that I think it’s almost an obligation.
Regarding Loverboy & REO Speedwagon – speaking as somebody who was 15 that year, I can see how somebody could think of Loverboy’s “Lovin’ Every Minute Of It” as a hipster doofus track while “Can’t Fight This Feeling” earns the guilty pleasure distinction. REO was on the downside of their career then whereas Loverboy was still in the crest.
-
I thought this was old hat, but just in case there are those among us who don't know why the Hooters are called the Hooters:
They took their name from a nickname for the melodica, a type of keyboard harmonica which is German in origin and made by Hohner.

BOS1 - HoJo's in the hizzouse!
-
instant BOS HoJo -- things CAN only get better. Proxy of Gaz.
-
BOS2 - I'm sooo in love with OMD...
I had this cassette too. :)
-
I've always thought that "Things Can Only Get Better" would be a good leadoff song.
-
BOS2 - I'm sooo in love with OMD...
somebodys listening over the actual airwaves! Ditto the BOS2
-
VHM Moonlighting. Can't tell you how much I loved this show!
-
Pete wants to face your face. Or something.
-
BOS 1&2, HJ&OMD.
-
BOS3 Yello. Haven't heard of them in awhile, though I know they had a new CD out not too long ago. Oh speaking of, has anyone else heard OMD's new CD?
-
Is Yello's "Oh Yeah" really from '85? -- most people probably didn't become aware of it until the following year when it was used in Ferris Beuller.

I remember it in 83 or 84?
-
OMG. BOSing New Order and their Perfect Kiss. Nice use of frog sound effects, btw.
-

I think he was channeling a little Taco/Putting on the Ritz there w that old-timey voice filter. That This song annoys me (Pete's, that is).
BOS to OMD and Yello
-
BOS3 New Order.
I have often stayed at home, playing with my pleasure zone. TMI?

Yep, though it was re-released in '87: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yello
BOS4 to New Order! WHoo-hoo! (Is she going to play the 8-min version?)
-
Apart from Pete Townsend, this sounds like Live 105 from back in the days.
BOS In Between Days.
-
BOS5 The Cure! They were so much better before they started being happy. (Meaning everything before Wish.)
-
The Cure is a bit katrinish to my ears, but I'll give it a VHM.
I'm hoping AL is saving Lady T for last...
-

You mean KFOG from back in the days? ;) (They were alternative back then, yes? IIRC Live 105 didn't go alt. until 86 or 87.)
-
I'll pre-quote RGMike here: "I am gobsmacked!" ;)
The Night Shift!
-
Rock Hudson --> a song about other dead people. Nice. BOS4 "Nightshift", one of the best tribute records evah.
This HAS to lead into Teena M, no?
-

The Night Shift!
Mr Hudson was often gobsmacked, I'd wager. ;)
Tasteless joke from the mid-'80s: "hey, did you hear Jim Nabors drowned today? They found him bobbing on the Hudson"

OK, maybe it was when it was just KITS - or it could've been The Quake. Definitely not KFOG.
-

Lol...yep.
I'll BOS6 this too.
-
BOS5 Mr Green Gartside.
-
BOSing Scritti Politti, though I'm with RG...Would've preferred to have heard Wood Beez.
-
love this album

It was suggested at the time that Mr Gartside should've produced MJ, but it never happened.
-
ooh, another BOS for HooDoo Gurus' Bittersweet (and proxy of Shray!)
(btw, AL has played this one before. I found out about them years only later from Live 105 playing Come Anytime)
-
BOSFRA Hoodoo Gooroos (not to be confused with poopoo underoos).
-

Is that a common mistake? BOS for X.

this is X? I'm sorry to hear that. :-\
-
another BOSFRA to X! But unless we're "going to 11", no Lady T. Now I really *am* gobsmacked. Did KFOG not have a copy of "Lovergirl"? For shame.

I thought that sounded like John Doe
-
BOS7 to Scritti Politti. (Can't remember the last time I BOS'd this many.)
I'll give a VHM to X too.

well, we must acknowledge that KFOG would not come anywhere near Teena Marie when she was alive and kickingg, and to hear her here (!) would just be gobsmackingly weird - in a good way - it would turn the 10 at 10 set into a Jack FM session.
Also, maybe AL just plain isn't into her.

the voice did, but the music sounded like something else.

Gotta say, this is the first time I've been truly disappointed at not getting a request -- I mean, it was overwhelmingly asked for, and that's not happened in the FB era.

I don't know.... she's played Frankie Smith, Sir Mix-A-Lot and Arrested Development amongst others. You wouldn't think playing Teena Marie, especially in light of her death, would be that big of a deal ("Lovergirl" was in fact a top ten pop hit).
I'm guessing they didn't have a copy, and don't have the means to play it online. Or something. Or maybe they just goofed.
EDIT: Or perhaps the album was actually released in 1984, although everybody considers the song to belong to 1985. It's happened before.

and "Nightshift" is every bit as much a "non-KFOG" pop record as "Lovergirl". Seemed esp weird to play a song about dead singers and ignore the dead singer everyone wanted to hear.

Whoa. I was interrupted and couldn't listen to the end of the set, but fully expected AL to end with Lovergirl. It's a good song and worthy of an appearance at 10@10 regardless of Teena Marie's passing. Just sayin'.
-
AL saw my comment on FB and explained that she "came close" to seggging from "Nightshift" to "Lovergirl" but they were both on the same CD that she burned at home for use this morning. So she says she'll play it in the next '84 set (tho' I suspect we should remind her). It's one of those on-the-cusp-of-2-years songs in any case; a (very) late-'84 release. Whatevs.

Well, it's good she responded. I wonder if in retrospect she regrets playing "Nightshift" in its stead.

Maybe AL will play it if you request it in your robot voice. ;)
