a new year, and a reminder that KPOO's Judge will be doing a 3-hour salute to Teena Marie today at noon.

I'm sure he'll play Where's California? -- I like that one.

And so it begins: Lady T and Slick Rick, "Suckah fo' yo' LOVE!" , bay-bay!
And now we talkin' square square biz!
OMG: haven't heard "You Go To My Head" in ages. swoon!
Teena takes us to the *real* Xanadu -- "Behind the Groove"!
and another personal fave: "Portugese Love". A KDIA staple back before they disappeared.
When the push comes to shove
and you need a little love
let me put some rock into your world...
But: 3 hours and he didn't play "Fire & Desire"?? WTFF?

switched over to The Boardwalk after the Lady T tribute and lo, it's Curtis Mayfield's always-fab "Move On Up" -- truly one I never tire of.

I listened to a little KPOO b/w 2:30 and 3.. Their stream is pretty wonky, more in the left channel, sounds tinny. too bad.

They're on a low budget (what did you say?) They're on a low budget (I thought you said that)

JJ starts my day with a "Misdemeanor". And everybody's got the notion MJ's your Goodwill Industries.
Gem of the day: Chi-Lites, "24 Hours of Sadness"

Why does JJ consistently mispronounce Harvey Fuqua's name as "Harvey Floo-kloft"? I mean, WTF?

Yeah, he says "Birf-day" too. But that's (dare i say it) a black thang.

TANC: Radio de Sebb plays "Nightshift". What were the odds??

Listenimg to Vin Scelsa's show from Christmas nite: he played Lord Buckley's "Scrooge", which used to be an annual thing when he was on commercial radio. Hadn't heard it in many years.

Only on The Boardwalk could you hear a segue from the Dwight Yoakam/Sheryl 'ho duet of Sonny & Cher's "Baby Don't Go" to Toots & the Maytals' "Funky Kingston" :o

Tonight I'm listening to Larry Grogan's Funky16Corners radio show. Damn, is he good. From the original "Harlem Shuffle" to a few NTMs to a song called "My Love Is in the Pocket" that I knew through an Amen Corner cover.

Ooh, he plucks out an all-time fave of mine, the Formations' "At the Top of the Stairs."

So glad he re-posts these shows on his blog -- I'll be checking this one out later today. Glad to see he also played one of my fave imitation-Supes obscurities, "Girls Are Out To Get You" by the Fascinations.
