Title: 22 Nov 2010: looks like it might be 1996
Post by: RGMike on November 20, 2010, 01:01:52 PM
No "official" post from AL yet, but she mentioned in another thread that she might be open to year suggestions and I said that (according to our precise record-keeping) both '87 and '96 were overdue. AL said she had Cal football clips from '96 (Big Game is today) so keep yer eyes'n'ears open.

Good call, RG.   :)

Two songs that stand out for me that year are El Scorcho by Weezer and California Love by 2Pac & Dr. Dre.

AL never did "officially" post a 1996 clue on FB; I emailed her with 3 requests just in case:

Nada Surf, "Popular"
Imperial Teen, "You're One"
Lush, "Ladykillers"

all Live 105 faves that KFOG ignored in '96.

WOS Jars of Clay -- sorry, Swellegant Tim: even Jeezus would find these guys boring.

Thanks RGMike for suggesting 1996!  ;D

VHM Flood.
BOS Garbage, so far.  I still hear this all the damn time, but it was my 2nd CD ever.
LOL @ Champagne Supernova.  How many more water-related songs can we get from 1996. My 3rd CD ever, though this song has droned on a bit too many times since and this one too still gets played all the damn time on Live, Channel, and Alice.

So far a HOF-worthy set, apparently. Will have to listen on the replay.

VHM to EBTG.  The Todd Terry remix would have gotten a BOS.
So far AL's 4/4 for CDs I have.  :o

Would "Key West Intermezzo" count?

VHM to EBTG.

thanx for the ID -- one of those bands beloved by their cult that I haven't heard nearly enuf to have an opinion of. I thought this was Sara McL.

I liked Chris Isaak in 1996. But I'm over it now.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!  WOS and proxy of everyone who's not here, Deep Blue Nothing.

This Chris Isaak is NTM, but it sounds prety good, so HM.

Ugh. WOS to Deep Blue Something, one of the most overrated songs of the decade. Not to mention a Katrina.
But hey had a good song in 2001 that was ignored called "Parkbench," which was more or less a tribute to New Order.  :o

I guess I'll go along with the Deep Blue Something diss, although I wouldn't have minded if AL played "Halo" instead.

Might it be the time to do "The Macarena"?

Lol, I wouldn't have minded Halo either.

I liked the Cake song well enough when it was out (though 14 years of releasing the same song over and over kinda gets to you) but this set is becoming too much like a sample hour of Live 105 recurrents.  :-\

Well, we're still Live 105-cessive, but at least this Weezer song isn't terribly overplayed, so HM to them.

Funny the entire deal with the Pinkerton album.

which speaks volumes about how dull KFOG was in '96.

YES!!! Uber-BOS2 to the Eels. (Thanks, Swellegant!)
Hits 106 played this one!
Come to think of it, Hits 106 played the entire 10 at 10 so far, except for Chris Isaak and Weezer.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  That was more than enuf "Macarena" for one day.

"Novocaine for the soul" is Sominex for the set. WOS2.

Lol Macarena.
This is the second time AL has teased us with it.
Leave it to Annalisa to play it for reals next time.
I hated it then, but I don't think I'd mind hearing it now.

Funny the entire deal with the Pinkerton album.

I don't get the Pinkerton obsession either.  Loved, loved the Blue Album and I'm going to see them play it in its entirety next Monday.  :)

This would have been my BOS.  I got to know the song via the Todd Terry remix, which was ALL OVER Pittsburgh radio at the time (that, and Donna Lewis, on and on and on).  Bought the cassingle - ! - and was equally impressed with the version we heard here.  I still go back and forth on my preference; they're both marvy.  And sledgehammers for a bitter winter of '95 when I was making minimum wage as an admin in Pittsburgh and sorely missing a lot of people from college.

As well as everywhere else!  Hard to believe that was the song that took AT40's #1 Pop song of the year  :o

I love how they've gone from being AC/lite to club standards.  Even the solo stuff of both Watt & Thorn's veered off into techno.  That album with Missing was their last AC-ish one IMO (then the next one was kind of a "transition" one),  I got it on CD  8) but waited 'til they rereleased it with the Todd Terry mix at the end.
