Why do I suspect we'll get a '78 set in the next day or two featuring Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds?
Little Steven devoted a whole show to WOTW Sun nite.
-
Cue Richard Burton!

I'm missing the set (at least most of it, anyway) due to a lunch meeting. BOS to "Forever Autumn" just on a hunch.
-
Early BOS Elvis C quoting Cliff Richard, "On the Beat".

That's a pretty deep cut for Dave to play, but he always seems more willng to do that with Elvis than just about anyone else.
-
BOS2 Sylvester, "(Dance) Disco Heat". shake it, Ali!
-
VHM KISS action figures! (with Kung-Fu tongue?)
VHM2 Sammy "Plop Plop!"
-
okay, now cue the Richard Burton.
-
BOS3 WOTW. Richard Burton beats Tom Cruise hands down.
"Forever Autumn" really shoulda been a MASSIVE hit.
-
Love this commercial medley, particularly the Sammy Davis alka seltzer ad.
-
okay, now cue the Richard Burton.
OK, was the Richard Burton dialogue part of the Moodies' song, or has DM been having fun in the editing bay again? They seem to fit together pretty seamlessly.,

Beautiful.
-
From what I understand about this new WotW movie- Morgan Freeman does, like, voice-over narration. So, he's like the Richard Burton of this new version of WotW.

he needed Alka-Seltzer after drinking all that Maneschewitz Craem White Concord...

I think it's that way on the LP... or maybe this was a radio-only edit. The freestanding "Autumn" is the 45 edit, I always assumed.
-
Eewww, rough segue from the Moodies to Mr. Mahoney.
-
VHM the Money man, sorta quoting the DC5. Proxy WOS for Gaz.
-
aaarrgggh a little Eddie Mahoney
-
"I don't do boys!"
We know, Charlotte, we know...
-
Dana Plato- now there's a sad tale....
-
BOS The Stones - "Respectable" (nice segue too, from the standpoint of Willis & Arnold).
-
BOS Respecta-BOWL!!
-
another BOS Stones. "you're the easiest lay on the White House lawn" LOL!
-
Dana Plato- now there's a sad tale....
Agreed :(
-
have we ever heard bob marley on 10@10?
Would be nice

Yep, but not in 1978, methinks. 73-74 is where I recall him making an appearance.
Well, here's the winner of the popular BOS vote. GD & Todd, both pretty much locks on BOS whenever they appear. (Have they ever gone head to head in a set, I wonder?_

Here's a good site for the dish:

ETA: here's a great little bit of prose from the above bio
She believed a five-page spread in the June 1989 issue of Playboy magazine might lead to some positive attention, but her pictorial was overshadowed by the centerfold: Playmate of the Year Kimberly Conrad, Hugh Hefner's new bride. Two Kimberlys were bad enough, but Conrad [Bain] was the name of the actor who played Kimberly's father on Diff'rent Strokes. It all proved too confusing for American masturbators, and Plato's career seemed permanently shelved. Leads were drying up, and she found herself unable to pay the rent. She was even developing a cocaine addiction. Had the Just-Say-No episode featuring First Lady Nancy Reagan all been a dream?

Gee, we'd've never guessed you were a Marley fan
Dave plays his share of Bob. But then KFOG has him in regular rotation.
-
Wooo baby, I Need a Miracle. BOS
-
the Playtex commercial would seg nicely into "Jazzman" in a '74 set.
"Lift me, won't you lift me..."
-
...run run run run away....
Nice
-
I Need a Miracle
everyday!
-
And a proxy BOS vote for Gaz to Runaway. The Starship was never the same after Marty left.
-
...run run run run away....
Nice
gets my 2nd BOS!
-
proxy BOS2 for Gaz, J.Starship, sittin on the flow-ah.
-
BOS2 Warren
-
I've lost count of what # BOS this is, but... Zevon.
-
Great song.
-
Geoff & Gaz got theirs, is anyone else likely to get an appearance by their favorite bands today?
-
VVHM to Johnny Strikes Up the Band. Love to hear DM pull out Tenderness on the Block one of these times.
-
casting my BOS for Mr Zevon
-
Geoff & Gaz got theirs, is anyone else likely to get an appearance by their favorite bands today?
Well, I got Elvis C. Coulda done without "Dreadlock Holiday", tho'...
-
I don't like Reggae - I love it
as you may have guessed
-

funny, I guess it seems obvious, but I'm not sure who my favorite band is. It's probably the Dead, but there's so many others I feel so strongly about.

It's a long way from Marley, but it'll do. BOS2 (or was that 3) to 10cc.
-

Consider me pretty darned pleased as well.
-
That book Dave ref'd, The Fabulous Sylvester--I saw a guy reading it on the Montg'y Muni platform last night. Didn't know it existed, but my interest was piqued. Might have to hunt up a copy.

Doubtful in my case. NRBQ has been played once or twice, but only Get That Gasoline Blues in 74, which is far from their best.

I mentioned it in another thread, but I'll retread here: Bob Christgau reviews the book in this week's Village Voice. Apparently it's an enjoyable read, but it's 300 pages, which I'm not sure is warranted or feasible no matter how engaging the deets of Syl's odd life may have been. Best revelation: Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes are masterful storytellers.

And Led Zeppelin didn't have anything going in '78. J. Geils might have had a release (Monkey Island, or Love Stinks).
Anyway, of the songs I heard (got back from the dentist in the middle of the Dead), I'll pick "Dreadlock Holiday" BOS. I don't like psuedo-reggae, I love it!

300 pages is pretty damn short for a bio, even if the subject died young. Xgau aside (I love that abbreviation!) I've seen several rave reviews. But I'll wait for paperback (I'm just now catching up with Moneyball).
Speaking of Syl & that period, KQED reran the docu "The Castro" for Pride, and lo & behold, that's where Dave got all his clips for the Pride set -- someone had asked Fri or Sat.
-
Bonus Track: "It's A Heartache"!
Is it me, or have the bonus tracks been more interesting than most of the songs in the actual set lately?
-
While I officially voted strict party line, Elvis and Zevon came very close.

Grateful Dead - I Need a Miracle (B-O-S!!)
Jefferson Starship - Runaway

-
BOS2 Sylvester, "(Dance) Disco Heat". shake it, Ali!
Shook it this morning on the replay. Big time disco flashbacks. Polyester wrap around dresses. Shoes with wooden and cork heels.
Forever Autumn. Just heard it like I've never heard it previously. No time to check lyrics. What's the story?
-
