this one writes itself.

How about one from his son, "Now You're In Heaven". Maybe not.
-
FYI, Thurs 10/7 the Morning Show will be doing a Lennon-themed "Request-O-Rama-O-Rama" . Guess doing it Friday woulda been too much John.

friend saw the Yoko-hosted 70th bday party in LA last week, it featured The Plastic Ono Band, Yoko, Sean Lennon, Iggy Pop, Lady Gaga, others. She loved it, said once Yoko got her screeching songs out of the way, it settled into a nice groove, and Sean was slappin' da bay-uss like a madman.

Wow, I hadn't thought about that song in a long time. Dark stuff. I feel bad for the guy.
-
AL didn't solicit suggestions for this, so I dunno whether to expect anything other than the obvious. Woulda asked for "Power to the People" and "New York City" and "Love".
-
aba-wakawa-'trina-poussay.

I'd hardly call "#9 Dream" a Katrina.
BOS from me. I needed it; this has been a shitty week.

Still, I hope we get some rarer tunes.
-
Well, here's a rarity, even if it's not the most interesting choice to my ears.
-
I'm hoping for "Power to the People" and "Gimme Some Truth." Gut feeling that we'll get the latter.
-
Live "Peace" in Toronto! BOS1. I'd love "Cold Turkey" too.
-
BOS2 "Crippled Inside", even tho' AL played it quite recently.
-
"Crippled Inside" is an inspired choice. I missed the previous play, but was listening to this album recently.

"Fresh Air" w Terry Gross did a John Lennon special today, culling together Lennon-related interviews. An interesting one with John Wiener:
"...Historian John Wiener spent 14 years fighting to gain access to the FBI's secret files on John Lennon. At first, the FBI refused to release many of the documents, saying their release would endanger national security. Wiener's Freedom of Information case went all the way to the Supreme Court before the FBI agreed to settle.
Wiener spoke with Terry Gross about the case in 2000. His book about John Lennon's FBI files is entitled Gimme Some Truth: The John Lennon FBI Files."

I feel a sadness every time I hear Starting Over. It the one song that takes me back to that horrible day. Happy Birthday John.

My sentiments *exactly*. One of my life's "do you remember where you were" moments.
-
No surprise that we end on an "Imagine"ary note. But generally this was a "Wow!" -- the home-run AL didn't hit yesterday is more than made up for with this set.

oops, I miscounted. VHM "Mind Games". I'm always in the Fordham U parking lot listening to this on my car radio whenever I hear it.

my mom woke me up and told me that morning. I think it affected her more than me back then.
a story about John's piano, perhaps the one on this track: my friend used to work for a landscaping company in NYC. It was very high-end, they did Woody Allen's terrace, big gala parties, etc. They also did (John &) Yoko's Dakota apartment, providing florist services, etc. One day a guy (not my friend, phew!) was moving a big vase of water in the apartment, near John's famous white piano -- and of course, the vase broke -- sending water cascading all over the place. Soaking the piano, getting framed photos wet. Yoko sill retained their services after that, but it was a disheartening moment for all involved.

And I'll see your shitty and raise you 2 crappys and a sucky.
I'm all in. Shitty, two crappys, and a SUCK ASS.
Digging Mind Games however, as well as Working Class Hero and How Do You Sleep? I've missed most of the rest of it.

This woulda been my request had she asked. Glad she thought of it too, even if it is pretty damn bitter.
Gimme Some Truth reminds me now of Vin Scelsa as much as John. Vin played it every week on his show for about 5 years during the Bush presidency. Sometimes more than once.

he backtracked on How Do You Sleep quite a bit on that interview AL played after the song.

I'll play "Getting Better" later tonight and dedicate it to us all. "It can't get no worse ..."

I was the winner of this morning's Request o' Rama just before 8AM and asked for the Beatles "You Know My Name (look up the number)" (the B-side of the single "Let It Be") as I wanted something rare and different. After the play, Irish Greg said 'I thought the worst Beatles song was Bungalow Bill, but that was the worst.' Renee said she liked it. Webster said some listeners are going 'hey, its You Know My Name!, while others are thinking 'that's 4-minutes of my life I'll never get back.' By the way, when I made my request, Renee commented that I sounded like the voice for Moviephone, because I purposely used my upbeat announcer voice for the game. Hey, it's the radio, you're supposed to sound upbeat when you win!
Haha, this is great. Nice job! (And I dislike YKMN but would have been amused to have it turn up randomly on the radio.)
