Title: 8 Sept 2010: it's... 1971!
Post by: RGMike on September 07, 2010, 08:10:39 PM
AL has posted a clip from Serial Mom on FB; it's not clear whether it's a hint for tomorrow or not. '94 is certainly due (last visit was July).

AL just posted a clue (the year that Disney World opened, and the voting age was dropped to 18) that means it's 1971, by my calculations.  (I took the liberty of modifying the subject of the previous post to show this.)

thanks, bub.  There are already 36 comments on that FB thread and her page froze up on me yet again so I'll have to settle for other people's requests today.

OMFG! uber-BOS4 John, "Crippled Inside".*
and when you're crippled inside... "It Don't Come Easy".

* - A bustout per the shraytabase, tho' I'd swear Dave played it once -- or was that Ginger back in her 10@10 days?

OMFG2!  one from my wish-list:  BOS5 "Bangla Desh". AL, I love you!  Funny, I was gonna ask if that was Leon Russell on the Lennon tune, and here he is with George.

good set so fars!

I wasn't clear what happened with the song break during Funky Nassau.. I couldn't quite hear what AL was saying.  Nice to know she's went old-school with that one.

BOS to George for a song that I don't really know, but it's from a significant historical time.

another BOS to Low Spark.. I'm sure someone will post a cool cross dressing album pic soon. ... I will if no one does...  :)

I didn't know there was a short one.

Well, damn that *was* long.  And we're still not done.  VHM All in the Family and BOS6 Macca, "Smile Away" from the underrated Ram.  This set was one for the ages.

I believe the version of Low Spark runs about 11:30. I do remember that some rock stations would significantly shorten the bridge and ending which would at that point knock it down to about six minutes. And a really bad idea.

The Macca song was one of my two requests, the other being Ocean's Jesus rock hit, Put Your Hand In the Hand. The one I got was the less obscure of the two, but I'll take it.

ETA2: Ha! AL flips the 45 over for part 2 of "Funky Nassau"! LOL!

Low Spark may have been the full version, but I think Make It Funky was an edit. Still, pulling off the flip on Funky Nassau is one for the books, so she can do no wrong in my eyes. As ever.

Post-set ETA: Low Spark was indeed the full 11+ minutes, so big ups to AL for putting on her high heels, diving in and giving us the full version. But my BOS vote is for a 4-way tie among the four ex-Beatles, with a six-way tie for fifth for everything else.

Btw, I count no fewer than six bustouts in that set--or seven if you count both halves of Funky Nassau. Nice. Very nice indeed.

If you're talkin' Morey bustouts: I count Edgar Winter, Traffic, John, Paul, & George. AL has played "Hot Love" and Ike & Tina, methinks.  Kind of amazing that "Low Spark" isn't in the shraytabase, you'd think Dave mighta gotten around to that one at least once.  And he's played "Funky Nassau" a bunch, tho' never "Pt 2".

Not sure if this was mentioned, but upon looking at the list from afar, I noticed all the Beatles were represented individually.

Digging Smile Away on the replay. This tune really swings--I'd say it contends with Junior's Farm and Hi, Hi, Hi for Paulie's most rockin' post-Beatles song.

"I don' know how ta do that, I don' know how ta do that...."

OMG -- is *that* what they're singing? I always thought it was nonsense syllables (ohm-ba-la-ba-doo-dah, or something).
