George David Weiss co-wrote "Can't Help Falling in Love," "What a Wonderful World," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and many other pop hits. During his heyday in the 1940s, '50s and '60s, Weiss co-wrote songs recorded by Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Patti Page, Kay Starr, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole. He was also a longtime president of the Songwriters Guild of America from 1982-2000. He was 89.

Wow. Talk about three perennials in the canon of American songs, although The Lion Sleeps Tonight is not quiet of the same stature as the first two. Hope he held on to his publishing.
