Title: 29 July 2010: it's... 1978
Post by: RGMike on July 28, 2010, 03:13:20 PM
Grease is the word, sez AL. Me, I've asked for some solo David Johanssen: "Funky But Chic".

Meanwhile, can't believe anyone would request "Werewolves of London", as if it doesn't get played a gazillion times a month, but sure enuf it's on the FB thread. And someone asked for EWF's "Sing a Song", which is from '75. Sheesh. There was also a suggestion for "Teenage Kicks", which if she plays it (and I'm betting she does) will officially be her new most-played track.  Maybe instead of Katrinas we should start calling them Undertones.

There's a person who posts every day on AL's Facebook page who should really change her name to Super Katrina. I wonder if Annalisa pops in here?

Yeah, but Teenage Kicks is such a great song.  I don't mind it being a Katrina!

Just out of curiosity, based on the shray database, what song holds the 10@10 record for most plays?

Happily waiting in the wings for this set. Couldn't make time to post on FB. Good stuff already suggested.

the by-now patented AL ploy: opening with a well-worn, overplayed "classic". Things can only get better, as HoJo once sang.

Alrighty, the next time 1985 rolls around, I'm requesting Hojo for the top-of-the-hour cooker.

But seriously, when 1986 comes up, I'd love to hear "You Know I Love You (Don't You, Don't You)".

and VHM "Hot Child" -- a HFH for some, I know. But Chapman & Chinn had quite a year there.

Nearly equal WOS for Exile.  I think I hated this song at the time 'cause I was lusty 14-year-old and wasn't getting any.  Certainly not any kissing all over.

meaning you don't like the song, or you don't like being kissed all over? ;)

this is the day of the... '77 holdover -- the Dan's "Deacon Blues", like Mr Loaf's hit, was released in the previous year.

and this is gonna turn out to be a looong set.

A very guilty pleasure movie for me would be "Spice World". Meat makes an appearance in that movie as the Spice Girls' bus driver. He's asked to clean the toilet, and responds, "Hey I love you girls, and would do anything for you. But I won't do that."

Just out of curiosity, based on the shray database, what song holds the 10@10 record for most plays?

shray or urth may know that off the tops o' their heads; I'd have to research it tonite when i have more time.  It's probably NOT Katrina & the Waves.

I cursory look-see shows that XTC's "Generals & Majors" has 19 plays in the shraytabase, with TTD's "Wishing Well" and FYC's "Good Thing" tied at 17 each. These include reruns, er, "classics" if that matters. (If either mshray or urth have better info, please correct me.)  The orig Katrina, "Walking on Sunshine", has a meager 12 plays -- yes, I know Katrina status is based on percentage as well.
