Dave's on vacay this week. So our discussion of a new improved Pride Set on Friday is probably moot. Hope the other "classics" are worthy of the name.
Starting a 1981 set with "Su-Su-Sushi". Yawn.
-
1981. A pretty good year.
Ka-ka-trina!
-
No, I'm her all-time favorite!
-
Is "Superfreak" a Katrina? Do we care? TEMPTATIONS, SING!

well, Katrina IS a very kinky girl...
-
just kidding
-
Damned Cow orker! Came over to ask me some stupid self-evident question & made me miss one of my all-time favorite song intros!
BOS - "Lunatic Fringe"
...and a solid VHM for "Vienna"
-
LOL! Not a bad choice for a club theme song, Geoff!
(Lunatic Fringe... not Vienna. Which is a fine song, mind you)
-
BOS S.O.B.

BOS S.O.B.
nice seg, too -- from a movie about Hollywood to "Life of Illusion".
best Michael McDonald imitation of set: Frankie & the Knockouts.
-
Most Representative of Year goes to Franke and the Knockouts, "Sweetheart." This soft-rock stylee is *exactly* how I remember 1981 sounding.

Really? To my ears they sound more Hall & Oates imitation.
-
BOS XTC
-
While I appreciate Dave's fondness for XTC, I could stand to once in a while make it through 1981 without hearing them.

Seems to me the overall sound is clearly trying to evoke the McDonald-era Doobs, which was way hot at the time, even if the lead singer's vocal isn't a dead-on copy (there are hints of Mr Hall in his voice too).

or at least a diff song, like "Ten Feet tall", which I recall getting as much airplay as "Gen'ls & Mjrs".
-
Speaking of making a pro blush... when is Kim Carnes gonna show up on "Hit Me Baby..."?

Did I ever mention that among my limo driving experiences was a day spent with Julie & Blake & their two adopted Vietnamese-born daughters?
Ms. Andrews is always my answer when people ask me, "Of all the famous people you drove, who was the nicest?"
-
BOS Elvis C.
-
Anyone who heard this Elvis C. song should not have been surprised by his subsequent Bacharach collaborations.

Strike! Strike!

[irony] Crap, I gotta go home now. [/irony]
The preschool called, my little boy is not feeling well & they want me to pick him up. I didn't really want to work today anyway.

Damn HTML inconsistencies. I don't know why that didn't work.
Meantime, BOS to "Dreaming of Monday," second prominent bassline in a row.
-
BOS3: da Jam. I'm dreaming for Monday to be Friday.

That's all very well and good, but did she "reveal the goods" (as a tip)?
Yours in bad taste,
Dave
-
I'm glad I was able to at least hear the end of the Jam song. I've missed most of today's set because one of my gov't-drone bosses needed something.
At least I missed "Mette Badis Dyes" (I prefer the Buckwheat cover)
-
I hope the Littleshray feels better, Mshray!
And I'm glad Julie Andrews was nice.

So, if folks are really bored tonight and have nothing to do please don't forget I'm performing improv at The Green Room (The Cannery, SF) at 8pm!
-
I looked it up, and it's rarely used, but I'm testing to see if I can make it work

that's what I used too... and when I re-submitted my old post, it worked!

I'm not sure why the old postings don't work, but I used both the 'S' as well as the 'strike' tag, and they both worked. Make sure the 'disable html' box is unchecked when you post.

I added it to an allowed list in the back office. If you want more tags, let me know.

BONUS TRACK: The Blasters - I'm Shakin'
that's a helluva fine bonus track, too bad they don't replay those right after the 10 pm set. Who picked it, Rosalie? 'Cuz Annalisa has Morning Show duty this week.

It occurred to me also that they could have easily shined on the bonus track since Dave was on vacation, but made the effort to do the bonus track anyway.
