Title: 22 July 2010: it's... a "classic" from 1969
Post by: RGMike on July 22, 2010, 07:38:02 AM
Per AL on FB: she's off the next 2 days, so it's a '69 rerun today and -- appropriately, since Mr Hummel of Big Star just died -- an encore of the great PowerPop set.  I'm good with both of these, actually.

Kinda wished she'd played them in reverse order, since we're leaving first thing manana for a weekend camping in King's Canyon NP, and that Power Pop set was one of my all-time faves in either era of 10at10.

This is still good though.

Gaz, you gonna meet Tommy James, Marty Balin, others at that Rock Convention 7/30-8/1?  At their website, if you click on each individual artist, it takes you to more info/video of each:

proxy of Gaz: the Laugh-In clips he wasn't yet born for when they first aired on NBC.

BOS "Dizzy", a pleasing bubblegum flashback.

BOS2 and another proxy of Gaz: Mama Cass' orig version of "Easy Come Easy Go", an ATBB when this set first ran in December.

Tinka provided me with an MP3 of the set; I can send it to you or make you a CD of it if you want.

PS: A copy editor would have avoided the confusion by titling it "Black-Magic Woman."

Last Sunday on KOFY-TV's "Retro Night" they showed two episodes of Hawaii Five-O, one from 1974 with Casey Kasem guest starring, who had a hilariously bad big pompodour wig.

I did?  well, look at me!

heh, I've been archiving a lot of sets lately. Most are in QT movie format: if you click on the file it will be played as a QT movie w not picture, just sound.  (I think Rastermon does this too?).   I can come up w a list of sets I have, and we can find a way to share them.

BOS to the Ventures. TANC: I just picked up Hawaii Five-O season nine DVD set for $10.  (It's not even released yet! scored it a swag sale for charity here at work, where review copies of stuff are always coming in)

yeah, they did a nice job on that.  Of course, in 1983 the original was a somewhat forgotten song (the '60s revival was just getting underway). Now it's one of the 3 or 4 most-overplayed "oldies" in radio history -- right up there with "Brown-Eyed Girl", "Happy Together" and "My Girl".

Did you visit the Fox's nice bar/lounge?  It's at corner of building with an outside entrance on Telegraph St and, of course, inside entrances from the theatre.  I've been to the Fox twice, beautifully restored art-deco theatre, but the balcony seats are so tight, so crammed together, it can get uncomfortable to sit for long.  That's how I found their lounge.
